Love my new SR, but the fact that it doesnt have intermittent wipers is just lame as hell.

I saw how to upgrade and install the unit, but my buddy is going to do it tomorrow for me

    Its $120 module, OEM part
TOYOTA Genuine 84652-06340 Windshield Wiper Switch Assembly

Even my buddy who works in toyota parts admits its LAME as hell,

the base SR unit has a "medium" speed, and a high speed

THAT is 1000000% unacceptable. intermittent wipers are NOT a "deluxe" feature, theyre a necessary safety feature any car/truck must have.

Toyota gets a F- on this BS that some bean counter likely decided on.

Agreed, it’s 2021, let’s get with the times and have technology from 1980 come standard issue on today’s vehicles. I HATE that shit too, so frustrating.

At least you got a rear bumper and a passenger-side mirror.

Back in the early 90's Toyota used to sell their base model, small (pre-Tacoma) trucks with no rear bumper, passenger-side mirror or intermittent wipers. They literally sold hundreds of thousands of these models. Most people don't care.

FWIW I think the gauge cluster on the SR's are different than the SR-5 and above models.

the 2021 and I think even the 2020 SRs now have intermittent wipers unless you get the Utility package which “deletes” these and has the 2 speed wipers. didn’t take me long to replace my 2019 SR stalk with an intermittent wiper stalk, my first mod lol.

haha silly comment he left you there, who would even think to check the wipers on a test drive when all modern vehicles have intermittent wipers… except Tacoma SR 2019 and below and 2020 & 2021 SR utility packages :D

Thankfully rust is not a factor where I live, if it was I wouldn't have bought a Taco as they are known for issues related to rust. My tow rig is a Silverado which regularly hauls me and tows my junk all over the Southwest; it's been to the dealer once in the 14 years I've owned it for a recall. My work truck is a '17 F-550 Ford with nearly 100K miles on it (and well over 5,000 engine hours) and has also only been back to the dealer one time for a failed sensor which was the result of getting a tank of bad Diesel.

As an aside, the domestics generally include a lot more standard features on their base models then Toyota does. For example, my F-550 is an XL (base model). It has intermittent wipers and Cruise Control (but no power windows or door locks). Test drives are a good thing

My first car only had a 2 speed wiper. It also didn't have retractable seatbelts, power windows, or air conditioning. They weren't even available as an option. When I was able to save up enough money to afford a Toyota Truck, the AC and passenger side mirror were options that I could afford. I wasn't able to afford the "deluxe" model that had intermittent wipers. I learned that Toyota had the feature that if you bump the wiper control up, it will wipe once. Are you too lazy to do that? Some manufactures don't have that feature. Did you not test drive and research about the truck before you bought it? If you want "deluxe" things in life, you need to earn it and save your money.

Shouldn't even go as far as finding out in the test drive. The Toyota web site has a side-by-side comparison of the different Tacoma trim levels. First place I went when I started shopping and decided I wanted a TRD Sport at minimum, and what options I wanted. I agree, I haven't seen a vehicle without intermittent wipers in a long, long time, but having to make a $120 change wouldn't stop me from buying if it ticked all the rest of my boxes.
