GSP and weimaraners are traced back to viszlas. Vizlas almost went extinct after ww2 and were bred with GSP to not clog the blood line and run into in breeding problems. Only about 12 survived and some were bred and brought back to the US where they are doing quite well.20180930_162346.jpg

Now that I think about it, I did know that Weimies were bred from Vizslas. and I remember that Vizslas almost went extinct around the mid-century!

They're all such great dogs, I love them.

The black one "Claire" is a rescue. The Aussie I posted an earlier post when he was a pup and another when he's grown up a bit. They both love car and truck rides. Beware of the hardwoods when I grab the keys!

We'll have to check Red Cone out. This was taken on Wheeler Peak around Taos, NM at around 13000ft. It was a tough hike from the baseof the trail head for my wife and I (about 3000ft gain in 4 miles). The dogs managed it with no problem though.

Do you know of any good places to tent camp around that area? Our tent is too big, so we have been looking for a place we can drive to and set up camp. We like to get away from the campgrounds as much as possible.

You sound like a great candidate for Lake Como, Blanca Peak.

Cooper, 75 lbs of APBT/Catahoula fury. Killer of squirrels, opossums, raccoons, and rats. Likes to punk out coyotes. Hard-wired to search, scent out, and destroy. Fierce protector. Highly tuned scumbag sensor. Won’t let anyone get between him and his family. Has this hard eye contact/growl thing that is unnerving to strangers.
We got him from the local shelter. He had been in and out twice, poorly socialized, had some trust issues. He needed a break. He used to be “on duty” so much it was concerning. I’d get up to use the bathroom at 3:00 AM and find him watching the walls or gate in the rain. We have him sleep in the house now. He falls into a deep sleep now and often snores.
He also has this chortle, I guess you would call it, when it’s time to eat. It sound like Chewbacca. It’s both funny and weird. If he feels I’m late feeding him, he bumps me with his nose. If he is really hungry he has flicked my boys with his nose. I’m not sure if I should be impressed or pissed. He’s turned out to be a really good dog who is always at my side.
This one is Harper (Harper Lee, actually, and the other is James Fenimore Cooper). She likes comfort... a lot. She’s also a rescue. She’s an English Staffordshire Terrier. When Animal Control picked her up, she had pups recently and was about a year old. She’s very muscular and agile. She’s really fun to watch. The first time I fed her she stood up on her hind legs and hopped backward to where she eats. She does that every time. It’s like when you laugh, it just encourages her. She’s basically half clown, half hooligan. Loves people and attention. She’s a really good size in that she’s small enough (38 lbs) to go anywhere, but also sturdy. She’s smart and very trainable. She needs to be with people all the time and is a constant companion to my two grandsons.
