Hello everyone! Just picked up my very first truck--my dream Taco (2021 Cement OR DCSB Premium) and am loving every second of it. So far I am enjoying it stock, but have some SCS SR8 16x8 -12mm offset wheels I am excited to put on. I am finding myself super conflicted on what tire and lift setup I should go with to accommodate the wheels without rubbing.

Being my first truck, I am brand new to the modding and off-roading community, but am excited to get into overlanding. I am not expecting to be super hard on the truck, but anticipate getting more into technical things as I get more experienced. I understand some sound advice is to probably enjoy the truck stock until I figure out exactly what I need, but to be honest it's about aesthetics right now and I would like to balance with functionality as well. Currently live in NorCal (any great shop recommendations?), but I am military and will be moving soon. Hoping to have the new wheels/tire/lift(?) on before the move.

I have gone through countless threads here and spent hours researching, but I am still not sure if the move is getting some 265/70/16 or 265/75/16s with the stock suspension and hope I don't rub due to the offset (don't particularly love the look of this set up), or go for the 2-3" suspension lift. I have had my eyes on a 6112/5160 set up with an AAL, but this seems to be pretty tough to grab right now, so I have also been looking at Fox and Icon set ups. I am mostly hoping for maybe a softer ride than stock suspension or a similar ride, to not get a CMC if at all possible, and hopefully not break the bank. Open to any and all suggestions anyone might have on what you would do in a situation like this? Thank you for your time!

265/75/16 look great, don’t rub on stock suspension, don’t totally kill your MPGs, and add some bro-power to the Taco.

Do that first. Then consider a mild lift if you want that little bit extra stance.

I started with 265/70/17 and rolled with it for a while. I wanted a bit more “lift” so I added a 1/4” top plate. Honestly, it would have been great like this for a long time.

Because I have built a few Toyota’s and have developed an algorithm for what I like, I have since replaced most suspension parts and am using ADS shocks with 285s (yes like everyone else). The setup suits my need to experiment, tune, and see the results but, really, I would still be fine on the 265s with 1/4” top plate.

Don’t let the draw of keeping up with the perceived standard drive you to get something you don’t necessarily need!

265/75r16 look great, they have that magic proportion that makes them look chunky and tough and bigger than they are. 255/85r16 is also a great size. That’s what I have on my truck. They don’t rub at all and you get a little extra ground clearance without too much weight and rolling resistance.

    Thanks for the recs!

You don’t think they’ll rub with -12 offset wheels—thinking of getting BRG KO2s or Falken Wildpeaks?

Wide offset wheels introduce a variable. I’ve not run this offset myself, so cannot comment.

    Welcome

Sweetride. The neg offset will stick the tire out a bit. I run -6 and am out about 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Your tire choices should be fine.

I have 285’s but do not go off road or drive a lot and have a cheap 3/2 spacer lift. Not what u r looking for though.
