Looking for recommendations on a Houston Area dealership to install a super charger. I know some shops aren’t worth a crap. I’m interested in a dealership strictly for warranty. Yes I could do it myself. But, if something bad happens I’d like to be covered. Thanks for the input.

I wouldn't trust a dealership to do this kind of work and even if they did I don't think it would be covered under your warranty.

Back some time ago I think I remember reading about a TRD supercharger kit that was dealer installed, and because it was Toyota branded and installed by the dealership it was covered under warranty. Have no idea if that still exists or not. You may want to search on that and see if you can find more info.

Yes. The dealer will install and they do offer a warranty. Magnuson is who built the old TRD kit.

Mag has their own warranty regardless of who installs it.

i doubt the dealer will warranty you if something powertrain related happens, its not a joint effort like the trd blower was for the 2nd gens.

The dealer will not give you a Toyota warranty. Magnuson offers their own 3 year warranty for the power train with their supercharger. Magnuson made the old 2nd gen TRD supercharger that Toyota offered a factory warranty for but they do not do that any more

The Magnuson kit for the 16-21 3rd gens is $6,695. Holy crap!

The dealership may "claim" to give you a warranty but they are not the ones who matter, Corporate Toyota are the ones that matter and you will have voided your drivetrain part of Toyota's factory warranty with the SC install. Standard auto industry practice.

This is why the SC manufacturer has their own warranty.

If the installer/tech working at the dealership has done previous installs and you are comfortable with dealer pricing, go for it. If they have little to no experience save yourself some money and go elsewhere for the install.

If you can't buy it from the factory and if it doesn't say TRD, you're not going to get a Toyota warranty like it was available in the past.

I'd never pay dealership prices for such an install when their techs aren't even trained by Toyota to do so.

I was a mechanic for Chevrolet awhile back and I have never seen a single corvette or camaro pull into the shop asking for a SC to be installed. I got it Chevy and Toyota are two completely different auto manufacturers. I find it extremely hard to believe that something that is aftermarket that is going to be installed by the dealer would be "under warranty". I'm not saying you are wrong OP but to me it sounds like they are blowing smoke up your ass. I promise you dealerships will tell you whatever you want to hear to get you to spend extra $$$. Unless you get some signed paperwork from that dealership, service manager, Toyota corporation, whomever, and stating that you will be covered under warranty. I would not go the dealership route, I would go to a reputable aftermarket shop that does forced induction installs, tunes, etc.

not sure when you drove your truck off the lot or how many miles it has on it. The Maggy warranty begins the day the truck was put in service not the day the SC is installed. And it is for 36K miles on the OD not 36K miles after install. If you are under any of these limits then your warranty is only good for the remaining miles and time. If over any of these limits the Maggy warranty is one year on parts.

I would not let a dealer change my oil let alone install a SC. Contact Maggy and see who they have in the area that they would refer - likely a dealer but possibly a Custom Shop. It's not had to install if you have had any experience with torque wrenches and other common tools. In any case good luck with your journey.
