Hey there! This is my first Tacoma, but 4th Toyota. Used to have a 2001 Mazda B4000. It just wasn't cutting it on the space available.

I generally use my truck to haul my bikes to the track and desert. Plus occasionally road trips and camping trips. I am interested in using it for light offroading so I got a 4x4. I know it will fall short in some terrain without locking diffs and such of higher models.

I will make a separate thread if I don't get much insight for this next point. I want to replace the rough country 3" lift. It already has 285 tires though. So I am trying to figure out What I can change over to easily. I see mention of OME with bilstein. Do I want to swap the arms, springs, and shocks or just get shocks? My suspension knowledge is basic and I have only replaced worn out parts never upgraded. I would want something that does slightly better on road than offroad.

Why are you wanting to get rid of the lift? I was looking at getting the 3.5" bolt-on-lift by RC, and getting the same tires as yours. Did your tires rub at all?

I don't care for the ride quality. No idea how old they are because I got it used. My searches lead me to believe it's just a cheap lift for looks but not useful for offroading or ride quality

Welcome! I'd recommend going all out and replacing the upper control arms, shocks and leaf springs if you want better ride quality on and off-road. Since you already have 285s, you'll have to find another lift that'll clear those tires because removing the spacers and reverting back to stock height will cause a lot of rubbing. OME, Bilstein, FOX, and Kings are good from what I've heard. I currently have the fox 2.0 performance shocks with ~1.5 inches of lift in front so my leaf springs and UCAs are still stock. Any lift over 3 inches should require aftermarket UCAs for better alignment and reliability.

Thanks! That's what I figured but wanted confirmation.

Do I still need a 3" lift for 285's or could I do something slightly lower to avoid the need for UCA?
