Tried uploading a vid, not working. But the truck is making a pretty loud bang in 4wd while flexing. Only does it when flexing pretty hard. Crawled underneath and where the joint goes into the diff it’s fairly loose. I’d say 1/4 inch play or so. Truck only has 33k miles and isn’t lifted. Anyone else have issues like this out of there cv’s with such low mileage ??

Mine has had about that much slop since new. Mine makes a noise every time I hit a speed bump. Dealer says its normal but I feel its not. Going to be putting the bussing in and will be able to see the state of the c clamp.

The noise mine makes is very loud. Wish I could upload a video to show it. It’s only loose on the drivers side right where it meets the diff. Im thinking the needle bearing might be on its way out

I'll check my lower mileage 2017 soon as I get home. I'm about to leave work now. Interesting, I noticed the drivers side on my wifes 2013 was loose so I put the bushing in but that didn't help a bunch.
I'll follow up a little later, elaborate a little more.

So checked the axle in my 2017 which has like 21k miles. I'd say by eyeballing it in and out about 1/16" and about the same up and down. What's acceptable is the million dollar question.
I changed the front differential oil on my wifes 2013 and it has had a lift 2.5" for the last 40k miles now showing 100k. It had I'd say double the slop as mine all the way around. Double or triple even. I changed out the factory bearing and put the ECGS bushing in there and it helped tighten it up but it's still a little more loose than mine.
    Mine is stock BTW
A couple of thoughts 1) her truck had never leaked a drop of oil (I replaced the seal anyway), and 2) there's really nowhere that axle can go, (mentioned because I think it has nothing to do really with the retainer clip)
Here's a picture of the factory bearing 20210713_175312.jpg

I could go put a dial indicator on it for exact measurement if you have one to compare.

Thanks a lot for all that. I do not have one to compare. I mean if there’s play in yours I assume it acceptable. I’ve just had other trucks with cv axels and they didn’t have this much play. They were actually pretty tight. The banging noise I hear while off-roading is extremely noticeable. Sounds like something is about to break in half

I can see how that kind of a sound would be concerning for sure. Never heard a loud noise like that other than some binding at flex and tight turns, but that's expected/ normal

I just swapped to 4.88 and noticed the same thing. Even after the new gears and the ECGS bushing it was the same. No noises though. I haven't been on any notable off-road trails though, waiting for the stock tires to die. 2019 sport with 33,000 miles
