Never assume. Wear items, like brakes, wipers and bulbs, are not covered nor should they be as they are designed to...you know....wear out.

Gotcha…consider me schooled. If things don’t work out with your existing job, you’d have a great career as a dealer service manager :)

1 year/12,000 mile is a standard "adjustment" period.

Many people are familiar with this (if you've bought a new car) as wear items are responsibility of the owner.

However, those wear items fall under the adjustment period in the event that you got a faulty wear item. After a year, it's determined that said parts are good to go.

The difference is they cost more than $7.

Fair enough, I've had many new cars over the years (Lexus, Jag, Cadillacs, Corvette, etc). Something like this has just never come up so early in the life in the car. I actually just replaced it this morning. Crisis averted.

That's lame, you've been failed by many.

When an extended service contract is offered by either a sales or finance manager, you may recall a point in time where they mentioned said contract will cover many items that the factory warranty doesn't.

Bulbs, batteries, brake pads, etc are items that are still not covered under those extended service contracts, but belts and hoses, seals, gaskets, etc are.

Had a guest one time have an accessory belt give out on a new truck with over a year of ownership (still under 3/36k).

Fortunately, the extended service contract he purchased covered the belt, labor, and other varying parts that were damaged which I believe was the fan, fan clutch and some other stuff. They were covered as said items were collateral damage due to the belt failing.

Factory warranty had no obligation to cover that belt.

Actually the opposite. I got bit by the offroad bug and wanted the best/most reliable rig. I had a beater Montero that I would take out to the desert and it left me stranded a couple times, once out on BLM land where I had no signal. Had to walk 4 miles to get a signal. Want to minimize chances of that happening again.

It's a wear item, just replace the $7 bulb and be thankful you don't have 'REAL' issue like some have with their new vehicles.

So what you’re saying is that 1st & 2nd gen owners never made any claims against their new truck warranty to try and extract back some of the money they sunk into the inflated cost of their purchases?

I’m perfectly capable of doing my own oil changes but I’m utilizing a service I paid for. I asked the guy if they can take care of the bulb while I had it there assuming it was covered, they said no it’s not covered, I said fine then went and bought the bulb and changed it myself. The point I was making was that I was unaware of the fact that Bulbs had a shorter warranty period. I see posts all the time of people getting their batteries warranty replaced 2-3 years out. I would consider that a wear item as well. Are those guys 3rd gen pansies also?

By the way I also happen to love this truck, have north of $15k in mods, and wheel the shit out of it as well
