Kings, and I don’t think they’re bad. But like I said, no cage and bypasses are nothing to complain about. Even with my cage they aren’t bad because the bed cage is separate from the cab cage. I’m sure once I get front bypasses or tie the cab and bed cages together they will get worse. My buddies old truck was pretty bad

The rear 2.0's on my class 9 buggy melted both shaft seals at the last race. We're limited to 2.5's but my budget says stay with the 2.0's and replace the seals every race. lol.

They could've taken external temps at certain times too, and then figured out a relationship between oil and outer temps. That relationship would give you what you are looking for, right?

Well I don't think that would be super accurate because ambient temp is going to play a role in external too. I guess I'm really not sure if there would be a direct correlation or not. This isn't my area of expertise lol. If I were a baller, I would add temp probes and all of that good stuff because data is fun. But all I have is a temp gun and some curiosity.

Yeah my truck weighed 4960 with a full tank of gas, me in the drivers seat and not even an aftermarket front bumper and winch. I literally have “no crap” bolted to my truck compared to most trucks. Well besides my steel skids and sliders

I bet it would be a fairly good correlation. You're right air temp would be a variable, influencing the external temp, but that external temp would influence the oil temp too. I doubt air temp would be a major influence though. However, I got C in physics so ...

You guys are way overthinking this. Whatever the external temp of the shock body is is close enough for you to realize that the internal temp is close enough for what we need to know.
On a side note. We used those temp tabs all over different parts of test aircraft going thru FAA certification process. My guess is they are good enough for any of you and the data you’re looking for.

But when you divide the internal shock temp by the temp in Phoenix az and carry the 4, it’s still effing hot

True. Before I leave the mall, my shocks are already at the oils recommended limit. That's why I crawl as to not cycle them too hard.

What seals are taking the 350+? my assumption is they arent using Viton seals on every shock they sell. Seals seem to be what fails with the heat.

Excited to see this on the porch! Last piece to get me started on my long awaited front end project. Took a long time to get in my hands. A few promises fell through from Harry and a misunderstanding between Jesse and I.

I have a solid mounted 5/8” bushed LCA, so Harry and I have been discussing various solutions for a while now, but the long wait paid off because the newest version of the JD LCA Mount kit accommodates 3rd gens which utilize 5/8” hardware. Big win for me. Just need to fit the 5/8” cams and hardware to all four corners.

The 5/8” discussion started when I asked Harry if they could laser cut a kit to accommodate 5/8” LCA bolts and he said it wouldn’t be a problem. I called the shop and pitched idea to Jesse, but he said it would be too much work for him to create new cut files, etc. We spoke about different solutions like adjusting the bushing and sleeve wall thickness to make 5/8” hardware work. Most of the time spent talking was about the other projects he had up his sleeve like the gas tank relocation, SUA kit and other cool stuff. But none of the LCA adaption solutions interested me and I never called back to seal the deal. I just figured at this point the kit wasn’t for me and I’d figure something out myself.

Then one day Harry reached out and called me to solicit a new idea.
Which was to machine 5/8” sliding oval shaped weld washer that would recess slightly into the control arm ears of the 3/4” side, to die grind by hand the 9:16” side open to 5/8” and put together all the 5/8” hardware to make it all work. I would just have to tack everything into position once I did an alignment. Sounded good to me and I agreed. But when the kit shipped there was just a standard kit without cam tabs and the regular 9/16”, 3/4” hardware and no 5/8” hardware. So absolutely nothing agreed upon.

I posted on the group buy thread to sell the kit to someone near by who might be waiting for a kit and Harry stepped in. He told me to call Jesse at the shop.

I had a feeling that wasn’t going to go well since the agreement was between Harry and I. I was right. It was a terrible conversation with Jesse because he was in fact completely unaware of the agreement. He got really pissed that I was trying to fix the situation and lost it professionally. Then said a bunch of stupid shit like he already wasted three hours on the phone with me and we already had an agreement on a solution, stuff about building trophy trucks and not having time for this and to just send the kit back if I didn’t like it. None of which was true and I got off the phone.

Harry then stepped back in offered to fix the issue after I explained what happened in a private message and called me on the phone. He said he would put together the hardware once he got back to the shop after the holiday weekend. He did, but only shipped out regular 5/8” weld washers and no other hardware. Still nowhere near what was originally agreed upon. The only excuse I ever got from Harry about why he never stuck to the original agreement was he didn’t see why it mattered anyway since I made myself out to be such a competent fabricator and was going to try to build my own kit anyway. The reality is, we had an agreement that stemmed from him calling and soliciting me. Do what you say your going to do.

I was concerned with other work issues at the time and didn’t have the energy to pursue it further, or time to do the install anyway.

Then, months later while away on TDY in NV, Harry and I had a good phone conversation about possible fixes and other things like the needless mess of fully fabbed spindles on a stock location UCA with antidive, like (my LSK kit has).

We considered making a whole new kit due to the new LCA kits accommodating the 3rd Gen, but Jesse hates me enough already and I didn’t want to be a pain. I just wanted to get things going and opted for the simpler route. The new solution was to include the 3rd gen 5/8” hardware and cams along with the newly released Howe steering pump kit I was awaiting to help save on shipping. Well, that never materialized and I ended up with the pump kit and still no 5/8” hardware and cams.

I contacted Harry through a PM months later to remind him I was still waiting and got a $150 invoice as a response almost immediately and notification the hardware was ready.

The conversation was always that he was going to fix the issue on the house as originally promised, even though I offered from the beginning to pay for any additional work. Disappointing. while it was extra work for him, it took over a year to become an actually and a few broken promises (and a couple insults from Jesse :luvya:). Weird thing is how wildly helpful Harry is to other guys on this thread. We had an agreement that stemmed from him calling and soliciting me is the reality.

Anyway, the Tundra rack with the Howe pump kit are going in at the same time and I’m sure lots off alignments in my garage. @Basikbiker hooked me up with his machined mounting hardware to make the job a little easier.

Fresh RCV boots are on their way and the clamshell will be getting all new seals plus a fresh ECGS bushing.

Hopefully, in the meantime this inner fender group buy kicks off and I can add my bypasses onto the front end and relocate my bumps to the UCA.

Edited for full account of events

“Part out” is what we used to say back in my day. But the resale prices these days are nuts so yes indeed, trade in.

No idea. I'm not worried about it since I won't be mobbing my suspension much and I'm mostly slow crawling, I just wanted to build my truck as a jack of all trades. I'm neither a hardcore wheeler or a desert dune jumper but this setup will cover all the bases of the stuff I do. For now I'll be running 2.0s but eventually I'll step up to 2.5s, funds allowing.
