Has anyone else experienced problems with the VooDoo mid-height bed rack rubbing up against a stock tonneau cover and leaving holes/ruts/divots in the hard plastic upper shell? My rack has been having problems with the two bolts securing the rack to the bed rails coming loose or even falling out, which I suspect is a contributing factor.

Current have a Roofnest Condor on the mid-height VooDoo- Max Modular, all on a 2019 Tacoma DBCB Limited.

Have had the rack since April, tent since May and recently did a 7200 mile loop from TX through the Pacific NW and noticed it about half way through the loop.

I reached out to VooDoo and was frankly disappointed with their apparent lack of care in it being a problem or helping to solve it. They just stated they had not seen it before and that I should consider blue Loctite. When I continued to push for information or help, they suggested buying new, shorter bolts to replace those they provided. For a well known company and a fairly expensive product, this was a bit upsetting and will likely deter me from buying more of their products.

So I guess the big question, is this something that I need to just stomach for not using Loctite or do I have a right to be frustrated that a day of off-roading and some highway miles will loosen the bolts to falling out without Loctite?

Looks like those bolts thread into inserts? Why not add a lock washer to the outside between the flat washer and bolt head? That will pull the bolt away from your tonneau and help prevent it from backing out.

EDIT: as far as Voodoos response goes, they can't really account for everyone setup. Did you torque those bolts to anything specific, or just tighten them down? They should probably specify a torque value, but even if they don't, you need to make sure you are tightening them properly.

    From the included instructions:

"Finished tightening all the bolts. You don't need to crank them down, just a nice "snug" is sufficient."

    ---

I hand tightened everything with a ~9" socket wrench, as tight as possible by hand.

For a variety of reasons, I am likely going to remove the tonneau cover and just mount it directly to the truck without the additional brackets, which should eliminate the problem.

It does not, however, eliminate the damage if I wanted to try to sell the cover... :/
