    only pulled caps off when i did the leak down test. caps were on for compression test and all spark plugs removed.

    you pull the oil cap and the radiator cap to listen/watch for air during a leak down test. Also listen to the intake and exhaust pipe to determine where air is escaping, if not into the crank case or radiator. Compression tests and leak down tests are not one in the same.

    piston ring land is the acceptable term for area between the recessed area that each piston ring sits in. On the 4.0 the distance between the top oil retaining ring and the top of the piston is very minimal and often times is the first point of failure for the engine. Cracks start between the top ring land and piston surface in the piston itself.

    Pulling the oil cap to see blow by is a good visual test. Helped me avoid buying crap diesel trucks. Ring land(s) is an accepted terminology in mec eng documentation or at least I've used it.

    The radiator cap I have always done. Not the oil cap. The only time I have ever pulled the oil cap was to check for a snapped timing belt on non 4.0's.

    Interesting terminology, and methodology.

    The ring lands are notorious for giving way on these engines, when pushing them too hard. That is why 400whp, with a solid tune, is pretty much the max, until you build the engine.

    Those then rods.

    From what I've heard (albeit 2nd hand), they're just confirming Calibration ID's. Which most available Toyota reflashing tools/software packages do not alter. If they’re checking CVN (calibration verification numbers) you’re going to have to flash back to a stock calibration. I'm interested to hear and know more.

    Many of the "Big 3" tuners change their Calibration ID’s as a means to lock/secure their IP.

    Pretty much any 350z or g35 with a tune will be some stupid tune that simulates gunshots

    Pretty much the cars and coffee tune. They just goto meets and 2 step in front of Dunkin’ Donuts for 30 minutes straight then off to some sideshow for tire burning donuts.

    I know for a fact a bunch of BMW guys will be having issues then. A lot of the shitty tuners will use the same Calibration ID for all the tunes they have. My buddy is a tuner and he uses the whatever Calibration ID the car has and builds from that. Other guys copy and paste

    Copy and paste tuners are the worst. Especially when they charge a premier to do said "tunes."

    I know. I first had a somewhat off the shelf tune which ended up messing up my buddy when he did his pro tune
