It doesn’t help that the TRS harness is backwards. I think people who don’t spend hours and hours tinkering in the garage with connectors have some legitimate confusion because it is possible to snap the connectors together the wrong way. Which is unfortunate. If we could somehow purchase H9 and H11 specific connectors that might help, but all the ones I’ve seen are generic for either.

Please let me know if you ever get around to making those instructions/guide!

I haven't fully dived/looked into the install yet, but early pointers are always helpful and appreciated.

The beginning of it is in the second half of this post. I’ll try to add some more detail and photos.

What's backwards on TRS harness? I know there were issues at first, but it's possible they were fixed. I had two harnesses. One off eBay and the other from TRS. I had had them for quite a while before getting the lights. I don't recall 100% which were which, but I believe the TRS versions were what worked for me. If that's true it'd be nice for folks to know that it's a legitimate source again.

The stuff I've seen from TRS based on photos from others has the low beam connectors pinned "reverse" from the OEM Tacoma females. But, technically, Toyota's OEM halogen harness is "backwards" for the low beam as compared to the high beam. So you can point fingers night and day as far as who's the bigger idiot, but since the trucks arrive with low beams one way and high beams the other way, the Mike harness (and the one I make) both follow that pattern. Polarity is completely irrelevant with halogen bulbs but of importance with LED so this point becomes a subtle detail.

Since it's possible to connect the H9 males either orientation and since it's also easy to de-pin and swap H9 male connectors, it's not a serious issue, but since the TRS harness ties 3 or more grounds together it makes it far more likely that you'll blow a fuse if you connect anything the wrong way. I'm a bit OCD and I like my colors to match up and my H9 connectors to fit the way they were designed to fit, with the deep tab on the male matching the deep part of the female and the shallow tab on the male matching the shallow part of the female.

Mike's harness uses black for ground. OEM grounds are all white with a black stripe. I match OEM grounds on mine but it's not exactly super duper obvious because the driver side high beam positive is solid white which looks a lot like white with black. Mike's uses blue for low beam on the passenger side but since the parking light is also blue there I opt for white with a blue stripe for low beam to avoid confusion/ambiguity during construction and I match with white/red on the driver side so that there's some symmetry.

It's just not really possible to make a completely idiot proof conversion harness, even with labeling every last wire. Best option is to take photos showing each high/low connector and the wire colors on both sides and they are either right or wrong.

The upside of having a single ground is that a backwards connection won't blow a fuse.

With all that said, I haven't ever heard of anyone having any trouble that a connector swap /flip and (in the case of the TRS harness) fuse swap won't fix.

Gotcha. Wish you had been making these things when I bought mine. Oh well. Can't win them all. At least you got to be the solution to me making a nice t-harness for my taillights so I could run a chase light all nice and pretty.

When I bought my truck last year the one thing I really wanted was the LED headlight package. Unfortunately, there were none to be had in the entire southeast so I settled on a TRDOR with every option except the headlights. After many grueling hours of reading this thread and looking at all the other great looking installs I finally bit the bullet and hit the submit order button. I was really torn over the standard or pro version and actually ended up deciding with a coin flip lol. Now all I need is my harness to get here so I can get these bad boys installed!

Ordered online from Cobb County Toyota. They were $696.13 each but I ordered last week when they had 10% off and free shipping so that helped a little. Not the best price but I order a lot of parts from them and their shipping is fast. Usually have the parts next day or 2nd day at the latest. I bought my truck from their sister store, Cherokee County Toyota and use their service department so keeping it in the family lol.

I finally ordered the led headlights today! No tax and lower shipping cost to California

    81150-04290 Headlight (Left) $653.76 1 $653.76
    81110-04290 Headlight (Right) $649.71 1 $649.71
    04152-YZZA1 Oil Filter - 6 @ $3.50 $21.00
    Subtotal: $1,324.47
Estimated Shipping to 91790 via Standard Shipping: $47.19
    Discount: -$4.72
    Total: $1,366.94

They emailed me this after VIN verification? These are the correct lights right? I'm thinking just because my Tacoma didn't come with LED, they are saying it's not for my truck.

    Thank you for your order!

We appreciate, too, entering your VIN with your order; this helps us ensure you're ordering the correct parts for your vehicle. Upon inspection, however, it appears that what you ordered doesn't match your VIN.
Based on the vin these headlights are not for your vehicle. Are you looking to add or modify these ?
Please reply to this email and let me know.

Tell them it is a modification. IF you give them your VIN they will not send what you ordered.

I don’t get it. I’m looking at a 2021 with the factory LED and it’s a struggle to see what they look like on the road. Why do people only want to take pics of the front of the truck?

Phone pictures don't really show exact representation. There are some around though of what you're looking for.
