You have it. See you in a week. Next time you might think twice before calling the staff “Karen's…”

I think I'm in the market for one of these but after reading most of this thread I find that there may be structural issues? I have three other options I'm looking at as well but I like the price of this one and the design. I guess my question is from those in the know how does this compare to the others? I would primarily use my rack for longer pieces of things that I need to carry around like building materials/surfboards and that sort of thing. Never very heavy but long.

We had early beginnings that started here on TW. We have had several iterations of this racks and in 2021 they are better than ever. All racks feature Steel feet with aluminum construction otherwise. We have had some blunders we will admit, but as always, we made rapid changes for the better. All of the changes made have been for the good of the customer and the good of the product. Anything that you receive from us will be of the utmost quality, and if issues do arise, we always stand behind them.

I'm more concerned about rework. Once I install this thing I don't wanna mess with it. There's any part of this touch the paint anywhere?

I've got the OG version of the Alpha rack, so there have been many improvements since mine. I can tell you that I've hauled a good stack of 2x4x10 on top no issue. Maybe like a set of 12 at least.
Yup, I honestly still like the OG better, lol.

Nope, they made sure of that.

I treated myself to the alpha a few (9?) months ago, installed it maybe 3 months ago. Shoutout upTOP for being easy to deal with and open to my color request. Shipping was about what they said it would be, ~6-8 weeks at the time I think. Everything was packed with care, labeled cleanly, and there was an extra part for almost every nut/screw/bolt which was thoughtful.

I lagged a long time on the install so by the time I pulled the online instructions there were some differences I think, but nothing too bad. It would be cool if the older versions were up on the site somewhere but it's probably good I get punished a bit for my procrastination.

I'm not a super handy person and the safety wire stuff for the handles was a big PITA for me. My disgustingly large hands had trouble weaving the tiny wire around, and I ended up screwing up so much I burned through the first one unsuccessfully. This also was the only part there wasn't an extra of so I went to Lowes to get some steel gauge wire that looks less cool than the black wire it came with.

Overall stoked with it, love the powder coat colors and everything felt high quality.

I have both rack on the cab and on my camper shell. The only time that the rack touched the body paint was when I messed up the roof rack assembly for the camper shell. I didn't install the spacers as instructed. But for the roof rack on the cab, if you and your helper carefully lift the rack over the cab and place it on the openings correctly, you should be ok. I had to rework the rack in the camper shell multiple times but none on the cab rack.

The design is solid and I am impressed with the accuracy and tightness of the rack. I have issue with one of the screws though on the cab rack (out of 8 holes) but overall it is a sturdy rack.20210620_115320.jpg

Lead time is 12 weeks currently on most racks. some are slightly less, some and slightly more. Powder coat has been out biggest bottleneck but we are very close to being able to bring that in house

Whaaaaat in house powder coating? That should knock down a lot of lead time, shouldn't it?

Haven't read posts between this one and most current, and haven't seen your exact install at 3ach angle etc., but I found that the washers provided for the bolts used to secure rack to roof (between boot head and top of rack) were wanting juust a bit wider as they bridge the slotted gap but just damn barely.
I used a wider fitting washer myself.
