Are there any frames available these days? Was rear ended last week and my insurance wants to replace the frame on my 2020 access cab. also going to need a new rear bumper, drivers side leaf pack, and a new back window...$14,000 with parts and labor.

Other driver is at fault so hopefully getting my deductible waived soon.

I don't see why not. I don't think the chip shortage affects the frame distribution.

Wonder what "recall" he could be talking about, the fuel pump would be the only major one l can think of and that would have absolutely nothing to do with frame production.

Frame replacement by the insurance company, that's a new one for me but perhaps the dealerships have frame replacement mastered after that frame rust recall/TSB several years back.

I just figured the insurance companies would not want to take on the liability for such a key component but I guess if a frame replacement falls below their write-off limits, they're saving money.

Personally I would fight for a replacement truck or at minimum diminished value. Are there any medical claims related to the rear ending?

2nd gens are about 6-18 months, but thats a class action lawsuit.

An ordered frame likely takes priority. I'd still expect 3 months.

I've only replaced one frame through insurance and it wasn't that bad.

In. Certain states they are inspecting and either coating or replacing depending on frame rust. My 2016 is going to the dealer next week for coating. My 2nd gen got a new frame years back. I would think Toyota would just undercoat every truck before they leave the factory. The recalls must cost more than doing it right the first time. Good luck!

I'm wondering when toyota is going to tell you your sol on these frames once your warranty expires. They told me its my responsibility to keep the chassis clean, and free of salt at least once monthly during the winter season. Gotta believe the day is coming.

True but that will effect their reliability rating. At least in the salted road areas. I hope that this will be my last Tacoma. I plan on 20 yrs and 200k. I had read and had planned on spraying the frame before the recall notice when I took it in for an oil change. I have the spray so I’ll do my wife’s new crv. Good luck to you and your frames

I'm also hoping this is my last tacoma...i'm 68 now, and previously had a tundra 19 years. Sprayed the frame with fluid film every year, but even then with our winters that frame looked pretty nasty. I knew others that toyota replace frames for same year trucks, even after 9 years. If you drive/live in the rust belt, you have to do your frame, or you'll never see 20 years. Don't expect the dealers/toyota to bail you out.

If Toyota was able to get me two new doors for a 1st gen Tacoma in two days in late 2018, a frame shouldn't be a problem.

i think they just tell us that so we don't bother them. i've heard of people getting them much sooner.
