Stainless steel sliders

As others have said: just sand and repaint your steel sliders as needed. I've had mine one for about 4 years now and the sides and bottoms are scratched to hell but only have surface rust. No biggie.

 

That isn't accurate at all.

Stainless steel is used on boats and some boats are used exclusively in saltwater. It doesn't rust at all.

Correct. Typically 316 stainless. Just literally had a brain fart and had to look it back up.

 

After a little reading, 316, if available in a pipe of choice size is what would be needed.

 

Just get steel and hose them off after getting into mud or road grime. It’s not that hard.

Wow, you found what may be the ONLY perk of living there.

 

You wont find anyone making stainless sliders, simply because of cost.

My $0.02 is that it wont be worth it. The amount of metal in good sliders is pretty substantial. You'd need to let them sit in the salt for a long time to rust all the way through. Personally Id get a set you like and have them powder coated. When the PC eventually gets worn through from a ding or just sand blasting by road grit, them you can just touch them up with a rattle can

 

Isnt there the issue of welding stainless to standard steel? I thought you cant mix metals

 

309 filler works well in that case. Sometimes a little pre and post heating may be necessary.

They could be built to be bolts on though.

I wonder if this is even possible on slider models that have a top fill plate
The nooks and crannies by the fill plate, especially underneath, look really hard to get any sort of abrasion on to prep for paint

Unless if it’s possible to simply clean with water and degreaser, then spray a rust converter or POR15
