I bought a 2013 Tacoma recently. I am the second owner. I noticed today after watching some videos that the instruments cluster was supposed to have orange LED lights. I supposed the previous owner did something to the instruments cluster because the lens are scratched from the inside (see picture). I ordered new lens already.

I have been doing research on this forum about the LEDs, and all I can find is how to replace them with other colors. I don't see anything about just disconnecting them.

I will remove the instruments cluster this weekend. I am hoping it is just an issue of connecting something back, so I can have the instrument lights LEDs working again, but after all my search I am more concerned that the previous owner just f*cked up the LEDs or the whole thing.

Anyone knows if it is possible that the issue is just the LEDs disconnected from the power source? Any insight my instruments cluster situation is greatly appreciated.

Those are probably scratched from the outside. The plastic is super common to get scratched up on these trucks.

Keep it simple man. Check all fuses first.

My cluster light brightness is controlled by a dial dimmer on the dash. Yours may be on the turn signal or wiper stalk. Check your owners manual for dimmer location on yours.

The lens are indeed scratched or smudged from inside. Looks like some used a dirty rag on it.

I tried the dimmer and it is not that. There is some light in the dash cluster that gets dim or bright when I mess with the dimmer, but the LEDs don’t turn on.

Your truck doesn’t have orange LEDs in the cluster. It’s just a soft white

Oh, thanks for this info. I saw a video about taking the instrument cluster down, and it had the orange LEDs. I thought it was stock, but it seems to be a mod. I took a picture of my dash.2013 Tacoma Other.jpg 2013 Tacoma Dash Night.jpg

Those are older model second gens. Thats why it looks different. The previous owner of my truck had scratched up my plastic however, it was worth pulling out and replacing just so i could read it all. I also took the time to solder different colors cus the orange sucked but that was just out of boredom.

They changed the cluster from orange to white in late 2011. Some 2011's have the white cluster.

I actually wish my truck would've come with the 2011-2015 white gauges. I hated the orange on my 07 and ended up swapping the LEDs out.

I agree - old cluster with white LED looks better than stock white cluster.
