If it's so simple, why didn't Magnuson include it

Because they want it to be quiet. Hence why they advertise it as a quiet supercharger.
The end user can make it louder with a lousy pod (hot) air filter, but I preferred to keep my pretty TRD one that let’s all the intake noise into the wheel well where I can’t hear it.

Not bad for one handed driving while filming at least…
You really have to nail 6100 before rev limiter to minimize the 4000-4750rpm flat spot on the current tune. If you get caught in that flat spot by shifting less than 6000 it’s slower than stock 0-60 and quarter mile isn’t much better. They really really need to fix it. I’ve been waiting nearly a year since my original complaint on it.

Yep! I would have gotten one of those, but the Lexus/Toyota tax makes them too expensive. Used Ford parts are cheap as dirt.

Anyone have Ryan's email at Magnuson? I will add my voice to the "needs a better tune" crowd. I am looking to do the SC but until they fix the tune I won't bother. KDMax + 4.88's is pretty dope even at 6500 lbs fully loaded. Just did a 3000 mile trip from Denver to Michigan and back. Regear fixed the 3rd gear 5k rpms on the highway problem. Now it's just 4th gear at 4k rpms on occasion to make power on hills and such, but it is a rare occurrence at sea level. Happens a lot more often here in Denver at elevation. @MGMSangTaco I agree with your frustrations in this post 1000%. KDMax + 4.88's is the best my truck has ever driven. Adding more raw HP/torque (SC) but removing the shift improvements is breaking even on that trade off, at best, IMO.

    Hello,
I would like to add my voice to a body of Tacoma owners that would like to see a better tune for the 3rd gen 3.5L Tacoma supercharger. Specifically around throttle response and the shift map.

I am reading on the forums that version 8 of your tune is nearly ready for release? Have the throttle/shift point issues been addressed with this tune revision?

I am reading that the creator of OVTune and the creator of the KDMax tune have both offered to work with you and send you their base tunes. Both have corrected the throttle/shifting issues with the stock Tacoma tune.

I understand that shifting is not the focus of the products you're selling, and therefore has not been the focus of the tunes you've developed for said products, to date.

However, I can't be a buyer of your Supercharger until the throttle and shifting issues are addressed by your tune. These issues have already been corrected in the aforementioned tunes, and you've been given the opportunity to work with the authors of those tunes.

As soon as the throttle and shifting issues are applied/resolved in your tune, I will buy your Supercharger kit for my 3rd gen 3.5L Tacoma.

    Regards,
    Matt

I also sent them an email last week asking if they were going to create a new tune adjusting shift points

many of us have contacted Ryan and Magnuson about these issues. Going back many months. To-date they have not provided any positive outlook to address these issues, or insight that they are working with any other Tuner to gain knowledge or improve Tunes. I hope they will come out of the shadows and show they are listening and taking action. I fully understand they do not want to lose their CARB cert - which you would think the modifications we are all asking for would result in a better emission result. Perhaps posts on other platforms may get their attention and result in them truly addressing the shortcomings on their Tunes to-date.

Be a man. Drive a manual and choose your own shift points.

Long bed required. And I am an old man, my knees and hips aren't what they used to be! Manual shifting is a young mans game! :duel:

I have a long bed and eat my cake too. There are definitely times when my broke ass knees regret the choice of a manual but I'm not going to admit to that when talking shit.

Been creeping on this thread for a while, I had a SC on my 2012 sport and loved it. Is the whine audible on this kit? I loved the sound my old one made, people used to call it the angry seeing machine. And does it add noticeable power?

It is silent until you get into the pedal and above 3500 rpm. Good power - about 33% more than stock.

I work in software. My role sits in between the client facing support side and development. I hear a lot of, "I don't like the way thisorthat works and I want it changed to serve my needs better." When software programmers hear these type of requests, they ask themselves two questions when they're considering whether to make a change: 1. Is it working as intended or is it broken? 2. Is there a strong gain in revenue that will result from the development efforts needed to make a change?

From Magnuson's perspective the tune is working as intended. It's not broken. They tune in Ventura, California, where optimal flat conditions and a lot of oxygen in the air probably makes it seems like their test Taco drives great. We can tell them how badly the Taco shift points suck until we're blue in the face, but they're probably only looking at the 250k units sold a year statistic and think, "Can't be that bad."

That only leaves revenue as a leverage point. There's a number that will get their attention, we just need to figure out what that is. When I emailed them I mentioned that there are 10-15 people on the fence because of tuning issues. That's 75 - 100k in immediate revenue if they adjusted their tune. I wonder what the actual number is? More? Less? Should we put together a list?

I would buy one if there was a proper tune available.
