I smelled wires burning while driving my Tacoma. The check engine light came on. I had a diagnostic ran on on it. Codes p0136 , p0137, and b1811. I changed both o2 sensors. Any ideas on where to look for burned wires. Thanks

Can you track the smell? Or is anything not working?

Were there any mods done recently? If not there's a chance some squirrels or something got in and chewed on some wires.

    Also, welcome!

No recent mods. I traced the wires from the o2 sensors, but they go between the firewall and engine. I need to know where they go from there. Everything else works.

Can you follow the scent? Or are you just basing it on the codes?

How do you know it was wires vs any other plastic burning?

You sure you weren't following a Jeep? But anyway if those are O2 codes then maybe they were O2 wire somewhere along the line that are getting burned?

I drive it everyday, so mice are unlikely. It only smelled wires for a few minutes while I was driving. I can't smell it now. Are there wires running through the cab that go to the sensors?

They all lead to the ECU so they do go inside the cab.

Well... Was the burning smell inside or outside of the truck? Was the smell coming through your HVAC vents/ windows down or was it coming in with the cab sealed, windows up/ HVAC recirculation mode on?

It's entirely possible that your harnesses for the oxygen sensors touched the exhaust somehow if the retainers for them let go, got old or damaged or if you had some mechanical work done that involved messing around in that area recently.
