Can re-gearing to 5.29s reduce your speed on the Tacoma? Also what is this in the picture?

Regearing will reduce your top speed, if all other things are kept equal. You can regain that top speed by running larger tires.

Top speed is limited by the ECM, doubtful regearing would allow you to hit that limit. Your RPM would be alot higher at a given speed with those gears. That button resets the TPMS system.

Guys hit the rev limiter, when regeared 5.29 on smaller tires. It’s been mentioned a few times here.

yikes, you're telling me you'd hit the rev limiter at top speed before the "top speed limit"? I find that hard to believe. But maybe it's happened. This isn't a honda civic, we usually drive in the 2-3k RPM range for good power band.

ECM? TPMS? I did not know that regearing on smaller tires reduces top speed

Your engine RPM will be higher for a given speed if you keep tire size the same, therefore that can reduce the top speed. Unlikely to happen unless you have a manual trans and ride up to the redline every gear. ECM is engine control module, TPMS is tire pressure monitoring system.

Considering most highways max speed is 75-80 mph max I think you'll be ok.

So if your using the OV tuner after any regear (you should be) does not allow you to reset the speedo, delete the top speed limiter AND increase your engine RPM rev limiter?

If it can't that tuner is a POS

Your rev limiter is your top speed limit. By regearing, on stock tire size, that rev limit will be reached at a lower speed.

This has been discussed quite a bit in the “5.29 Mega thread” here.

The button? That's to reset your tire pressure monitoring system.

As far as a re-gear goes the question is are you putting taller tires on it? If so it won't hurt too speed as much as keeping the smaller tires on it

Are you saying you'll hit the rev limiter in 6th gear before you hit the top speed limiter? That 5.29 thread is huge...

5.29s on stock tires at 83mph will turn approx. 2800 rpm. So you are not hitting the engine rev limiter which is above 6,000rpm.

BUT, the ECM uses this rpm to calculate the speed of the truck. Since it doesn't know you have non-stock gears, it thinks you are going about 112 mph, and cuts you off with the speed limiter.

Reportedly you can modify the speed limiter with vF Tuner.

I’m being honest. I don’t know if there is one system that cuts fuel based on speed and one based on RPMs. I don’t know. I would be interested to know.
