Was wondering if anyone has experienced overheating their engine; I hit a deer and cracked my radiator. I mistakingly put water in the coolant reservoir instead of the actual radiator and overheated the engine causing the car to stall out; rookie here. What are the odds that I damaged my engine/gaskets? The car starts and sounds fine. Currently at a shop.

If it got so hot that it stalled theres a high probability of a blown head gasket and/or warped/cracked head.
A competent shop should be able to verify whether or not the head gasket is blown.

    how many total miles

simply do the checks.................... be methodical

pull the plugs..................dont jumble them up

    label from each cylinder removed

do a compression test all cylinders c o l d ( engine Not cooled down ) throttle wide open

a leak down test tell U very different things than a compression test................ there again cold ( engine Not run )

if everything checks out replace all fluids to correct levels

U might have taken away some time/mileage...................only time will tell

no need to get Ur underwear bunched
