I bought a Tacoma from a dealer as my 2012 was totaled when two young girls texting came over into my lane and did a head on killing my truck. The truck I bought is a 2015 Pre Runner V6 with 52k on it. It runs good but sometimes when I start it I get a puff of blue smoke. Is this an issue? Thanks.

If it is truly blue then that means you are burning oil. The oil will seep past seals into your cylinders. However, it is common and 100% normal if it is just a whitish smoke meaning the engine just isn't warm yet. Maybe upload a video for some of the experts to analyze.

Could be that. The dealer is taking it in to do a free diagnostics on Tuesday.

If I was a betting man I would say that with 50k miles you're just seeing white smoke

I think you are right, Its just a puff so its not so big that its a cloud. Just a puff but it lingers in the air for a bit so its not water vapor. But it could be a bit of extra gas on a cold start up. This is my first V6 Tacoma, how does it rate to the L4 for reliability?

Mine will puff rich gasoline smoke/fumes.
But usually only on really cold mornings.

I can’t see an engine with that few miles on it burning oil. I’m betting it is a cold start rich condition.

When this happens, I stick my nose in the tailpipe and inhale to determine for burning oil or simple water exhaust condensation. Who nose which diagnostic method the dealership will do.:notsure:

Start up puff is usually a leaking valve seal.

Not a big deal, but valve seals usually leak after sitting, and on deceleration
