So I’m in the middle of doing my spark plugs and I dropped one. Everything looks fine, threads aren’t damaged, little bit of dirt in the threads. Should I just clean it and put it in?

I’ve been using one similar to this for twenty years, never failed me once. The more torque you apply, the tighter it grips.

 

886's on a DCLB. I'm having trouble with spring rate choice for the next one's, but I have lots of time before budget will allow the upgrade so I can think about for quite awhile! I run one of those low-profile "bumpers" aka winch mount, a winch with a synthetic line, as well as sliders and roof rack stuff that put a lil weight on the front axle. The 886s seem a bit much for that. However, when I throw the big steel skids on (1/4" engine skid and 3/16" mid and transfer case skid) it feels about right.

I haven't been running the skids lately unless I'm going on a trip, mostly because they collect a lot of clay muck(summer)/snow(winter) and make it harder to keep things clean and rust-free. Repainting them is tiresome and I hate looking at rusty stuff. I'm going to have to just leave em on and deal with it or switch to aluminum though... Too much of an alignment difference switching back and forth.

I'd like to upgrade to a full front bumper at some point which will change things again. Decisions are hard.

 

A little before and after.... Took off the surf racks that came with the truck when I bought it and took off the fender flares. Second part wasn't exactly on purpose as I broke the tabs on of of them while working on my truck and decided to see how it looked without the rest. Its different but I kinda like it. Now I just have to figure out how to fill the holes.... Don't clown my truck I know its super dirty

 

They both work, I'd ask for the larger D3 every time.

Well just ended up walking to the autoparts store that's like 5 blocks away. Better to get a clean one than possibly mess anything up.

Did the spark plugs. All Denso pulled, so good to know somebody did the plugs before me at 150k. But they were all at .050+, so good I changed em. Gapped all to .04-.041.

only problem is the fouling on them. It’s an 05 so I am worried about head gasket failure. Previously owned a Subaru with bad head gaskets and I always saw white plugs. But I was used to seeing more white on the threads than these.

Am I reading too much into them, or do I have a problem?

 

Thats what i use. I also take the engine shroud off (5 minutes), makes it a lot easier. jmop

 

I know what you mean, take the engine shroud off, two nuts, makes the filter more available jmop

 

Added a flat panel tailgate cover and a pop n lock color match. No dremel work needed like others have posted in the past. And I bought a used Jumping Jack i found on Offer up. Got a steal.

 

Added a hitch I picked up from a local member


Also did the break in cycles for the new gears

 

Color looks fine, if your gasket is leaking to the point it affects plug color you will see other symptoms.

An oil analysis will also tell you.

 

Im really into sea turtles, like sea turtle freak living in Colorado. Originally it started as a color match to my mountain bike which is exactly the same as the green on the truck and then when I was thinking about what to do with the topper I got a crazy idea to custom wrap a shell, purchased the vanity plate first and just ran wild with my innerchild. My three passions in life outside of my wife and furbabies are tacomas, scuba diving and mountain biking, I feel like this truck is a extension of that. Here is the 2005 4x4 tacoma before I started modding everything on her, shes been real good to me. Definitely keeping her for life.
