4cyl 2020 tacoma. It's like turtles banging away.

Agree 100% the gas mileage is similar and you get fair power in the v6. These trucks are heavy comparing them to the older 1st gen models. I think 4cyl shouldn’t be an option.

 

Why should it not be an option? You’re saying this like it’s killing you that Toyota offers a 2.7 in them. Some people like that, I’m one of them.

 

I love my 2.7L. Sure it's not quick but I also have it in a regular cab. I think an access cab is pushing it for the 2.7L in both the 2nd and 3rd gen. As much as I love the 2.7L, they don't fit well in todays world with truck sizes. Back when tacomas/pickups were mini-trucks and not actual midsize trucks, they had the power to move them. I think if toyota were to keep the 4 cylinder, they should consider some forced induction from the factory. Now THAT would be worth it.

 

Yep, i asked myself after what was toyota thinking putting a 4 cylinder in a truck that was only a few hundred lbs lighter than my gen1 tundra?....and that came with a v8.

Had a 2007 tacoma with the 2.7, loved it, then a i got a 2013 with the v6 4.0 and i loved it, great torque and transmission shifted beautifully, now have a 2018 with the 2.7 automatic 6 speed, the trans is not that bad compared to the v6 3.5 auto, i hate that i drove it and it sucks big time, i use my truck as a truck i had my bed loaded with over 1300lbs many times and truck ran beautifully, im no racer and often drive on rural roads and hilly terrain, i love my truck for its very lightweight and capable off road i dont feel like it needs more power and in 4low is smooth and torquey, i get average 21mpg with 2.5inch lift and 32inch at tires, yes its slow but i dont really cafe its extremely reliable and i would trust it to go anywhere and plus this truck really reminds me of those oldschool toyotas with the 22re engines they worked fine back then and so does mine now, stop complaining about the low power on the 2.7 and just buy what suits your needs, many are happy with the 2.7 and would take it over any truck any day.

 

Naw man. Your truck can’t handle all that weight and do 80. It’s impossible with that motor that they use in buses in 3rd world countries and get beat to snot on a daily basis.

 

No it doesn’t kill me that they offer it. I actually bought a 21 Sr 4cyl and drove it. Thought it was junk and it is and bought my self the v6. It’s my opinion and you have yours. I’ve had more than 3 tacos with 2.7 and thought it was fine until I bought the double cab and with that weight it didn’t make a diff if I floored it or not. I’m in no way trying to convince you to trade your Sr in.

 

with the lightest weight in the access cab my 2.7L is fine. The engine is proven for its reliability and Im glad I have it every time I read those posts about V6 timing chain cover leaks, broken valve springs, etc.

The spin on oil filter is really what sold me none of that plastic crap like on the V6.

Can't complain about my little 2.7l work horse..

She went 6,406 miles from South Florida to South Dakota this spring weighing in at 5,320lb.. Set my cruise on 68 on the interstate and averaged around 20mpg.. Enjoyed every minute of it,, if I needed more power than what it has, I would have bought a Tundra..

 

2.7 liters of 4 cylinder goodness.
Just add 2 turbos and you'll be just fine!

In a couple years, they're all gonna be 4 cylinders anyways, some are just early adopters.

I have no issues with the 4 cylinder, I mean I probably wouldn't buy one new, but Toyota killing the MT combo makes it an easy no for me.
I have been looking for a 16 or 17 4 cyl/5 MT fr a new work truck, but they are rare in my area.

 

That's a testament to the sheer speed of the 4 banger everything around it is just a blur!!
