Well crap , wonder if tire store would trade my tires back for 35, or any one got a cheap 3rd Gen Trans running out of funds and it my daily driver. I got the front axle out of mine I didn't need

I have a 6 speed manual, 35s and 4.88. I’m at 2900 rpm at 70 mph, so barely better than you. It’s not gonna hurt the truck any, I cruise at those rpm’s for hours on end. I intentionally overgeared in case I want to go 37s.

    For the 2nd gen V6
    33's 4.11
    35's 4.56
    37's 4.88
    I tow a lot so I purposely overgeared it a bit with 5.29. 70 mph (gps) = 2500 RPM
    V6 auto 2wd 37's

OP's truck is overgeared for 35's and is waaaay too much gear for 33's.

Wish I talked to u before I ordered them because all the gear places told me 4.88 for 33 and 5.29 for 35. That sucks so now what

Slap some 35s & some bronze methods or rhinos on this beast. It’s a super pretty Tacoma. If it takes a cmc & pinch it’s worth it

I feel your pain OP... I am on the fence as well. Recently did a tune and I'm loving the extra 'pep' enough to reconsider if I even need to regear.

Those numbers are correct for a tird gen but not correct for a 2nd gen.

The incorrect gear ratio won't burn anything up except for more fuel. The trucks fuel economy is definitely going to suffer with its current gear ratio.

You have 4 choices. Go to larger tires, pay to regear again, live with it, or if the shop that did the gear swap is the same shop that recommended the incorrect gear ratio get them to regear it at their cost.

WW-2 era Jeeps had 5.38 gears with 29" tires. You'll be fine as is.

WW2 Jeeps didn't drive well at 70 mph on the freeway and a big part of that is their final drive ratio. The transmission gear ratios play an equal part in determining final drive ratio and I seriously doubt a WW2 Jeeps transmission gear ratios match a 2nd gen Tacomas. You're correct that it'll be fine in that it won't damage anything.

Call east coast gear supply in NC. I’d love some oem 4.1 four banger gears in my sport but for after getting my 285s

The only time they saw 70mph was when they were loaded on a plane.

I'm eventually going to buy 35" tires, I really hoping I could do the rc60f transmission swap to soon. I was wondering could u just buy the gears and counter shaft for the rc60f and swap everything out, without having to buy another trans and input shaft to make it work.

If it’s any consolation, im running 33s with 5.29s and my truck turns about 3500rpms at 75mph. I personally think the cheapest solution is to just keep filling up the tank and let her scream. Or you could go up to a 285/75/17 which is a 34 and you wont have to hack as much to get everything to clear.
