This is great. I was worried I’d need it done every two years like my daily. Which is straight BS

I’m probably getting the truck tuned regardless but a little better mileage would be an added bonus.
I have given up on using cruise control, the gear hunting is endless with that engaged. I’ll get the truck tuned for that reason alone.

Thank you sir. I have learned a lot as well. I tend to be very risk adverse. I do software implementations for a living and I guess it's a carryover from work.

Based on my reading, people seem to fall into two categories as far as the stock tune goes. Either they are in the "yea it's not the best but I can live with it" category, or the "this thing drives me nuts and I hate driving my truck this way" category. I completely understand that for the latter group a tune is a must. Spending all this money on a truck (and in most cases mods) and not being able to enjoy it would, quite frankly, suck. I fall into the first category, and I enjoy my truck as is. Remember though, this is a daily driver for me and I don't do any serious off-roading. I just have to change my driving habits a bit to compensate for the tune. Will I get the smoothness and performance those with the tune get (assuming a good tune)? Probably not. But I also don't have all the concerns that having a custom tune in my ECM would bring, especially with a truck that has a long way to go on it's warranty. And honestly, my truck is not as bad as many describe, at least not to me.

Hey OP, before I got tuned I would drive with ECT on and put the truck in S5. I think it drove way better than just being in Drive.

But I still wasn't happy with the trucks drivability at times.

I was tuned to OV 2.0 Premium by a member back in September 2020. The truck drove night and day different for the better compared to stock. It really is surprising by how much.

I have had dealer service done multiple times since the tune and I do not think it is detectable to the avg tech using tech stream on your truck. Your VIN, ID etc will all match your truck as it should so no one should see any reason that its not legit.

I have since got re-flashed to the 2.0 87 tune and honestly haven't really noticed enough of a difference to want to run premium.

I would hit up somebody local that offers the OV 2.0 that has some positive reviews and give it a shot. $250 is typical.

    Good luck.

I think you'll be happy with the tune.

Just a note that there is no 2.0 87 tune. You were re-flashed to 2.0 Reg. All 2.0 tunes are Octane Learning, so you can try 91+ fuels at any time without the need to be reflashed.

Yeah I would've just left it alone but between the higher costs of 93 out here and driving faster than necessary I opted to go to regular.

Also I had to bring the truck into the dealer to repair a chewed up harness that was the root cause for my CEL I've been asking about on here for a while.
Thankfully that's been cleared up and the truck is running good:fingerscrossed:.

Maybe I'll run some 93 in it and see how it likes it. As usual thanks for the tips and info...

    You're welcome!

Oh yeah. The fuel price surge is pretty crappy right now. Getting close to record levels.

You can also run 87 on the Prem tune, but it becomes less responsive than the Reg tune on 87.

Ouch. The rodent issue is ridiculous. Hopefully your good to go long term. Mint oil extract worked very well for us.

You wont do any damage if you use 87 while tuned for premium?

DAMN ! , I repeat DAMN , I have been running the 2.0 , 87 tune for most of over about 18 months while waiting for the ultimate tunes while always using 93 octane fuel . I did it just because if I ever was forced to use 87 fuel because of availability or cost I would be ok . Good to know and thanks .

It was said that there is only a bit more ignition advance on the Prem tune. You might feel something though?

Is there anybody in Michigan to do the ov 2.0 reg tune? And can it be done on a later release 2021 trd off road. My main issue is the constant shifting with the auto on the highway, drives me nuts!

Fyi - Support for 04C21 (latest 2021s) is possible with KDMAX at this time.

Thanks, but I am only interested in vF Tune support and potentially tunes based on those from a pro dyno shop.

Understood, I just wanted to ensure the readers of the thread had that option if they were actively looking for a Pro Tuner offering KDMAX.

I have no doubt a custom dyno-tune with what tables VFTuner offers for adjustments would be a beast.
