I went from 2016 SR5 to 2020 OR. Beyond The locker that most people won’t use. MUCH smoother ride on the road in the OR due to the $300 set of bilstein shocks. Nicer interior package in the OR. Totally different pattern on the seats. Nicer wheels if you like them which I don’t. Totally worth it. In 2016 the SR5 cost significantly less comparably so then it was not worth it imo.

For me the TRD OR was 100% "want" and not "need." I got it because I wanted the locker, the heated seats, the dual climate control, crawl control, etc. As I researched more, I also fell in love with the sunroof. In reality all I "needed" was an SR5 with 4x4. But I still wouldn't trade my TRD OR for any other trim level. (Yes that includes the Pro unless it was a straight trade). The TRD OR is 90% the same as the TRD Pro except for the skid plate, wheels, and suspension. The rest is pretty much just cosmetic.

I don't like the "Skewp" either and I thought about the manual but see enough guys burn them out on the trail to go with an AT.

Most of us don't even need a truck, much less a 4WD truck, and especially not a specific trim level of a 4WD truck.

Buy whatever the hell you want.

For sure man! I thought for the longest time I was a "Jeep" guy but after seeing so many on the trail broken down with little silly issues what I really wanted is reliability. Anyone who lives in CO without a Jeep/Truck or dirtbike is really missing out on life!

I also think the OR has a smoother ride. Mostly because the wheels are 16" instead of 17". The more sidewall dampens road bumps and reduces wear on the shocks. Of course we are talking stock off the lot.

I dont even know the difference in the price. I DO think 80 percent of the offroad package Tacoma's purchased never see dirt.

The SR5 is more than capable, and uber reliable
. What ever you do, don't waste your money on a Sport. For the same price, the Off Road offers sooo much more, and a smoother ride to boot. Personally I just wanted the extras the Off Road offers, since I'm one of the few who actually Off Road, and not just Mall Crawling. Built right, right out of the box.

Most people never use their rear locker, nor the crawl control, but they are great to have if you must bug out!

Or Sport = dealership salesman talked me into believing the OR was a lesser ride because they only had Sports on the lot

pro is totally worth it, ~$5K difference than a loaded OR, higher resale value, better suspension, better offset wheels, skid plate, cat-back exhaust, and some styling options. I think that’s worth getting a pro for $45-48K vs. ORs decked out going up to $45K. To each their own.

That’s what I’m going to get if I ever start hardcore wheeling. 18 inch wheels and all. Might even add more chrome. :stirthepot:

I'm picking up the Off-Road this week. Only about 2k difference between 4x4 DCSB SR5 and OR.
I don't really go "Off-Road" like techinical Moab trails, etc where I may need the locker. But it gives me the option to if I ever decide to. I do go off-road (dirt/muddy/rocky trails) quiet a bit to get to my in-laws property which a typical sedan couldn't make it up to, but something like a SR5 would be more than capable.

The reason I went with Off-Road for 2k more are:
    - I wanted the Army Green (it's available in SR5 but only with the Trail Edition package add-on which is about 1800, so it pretty much makes up the difference between SR5 and Off-Road).
    - I get the locking diff, and the other options if I ever need it.
    - I assume the Bilstein shocks are much better even just on the dirt/rocky trails (it's about 50 miles to and back from in-laws property) as far as "smoothness" goes.
    - I'm not a big Off-Road guy, so I probably will keep most things stock. And I love the looks of the Off-Road. If I got the SR5, I would likely replace the grill (heritage/pro), wheels, fender flares - pretty much to make it have the Off-Road look. So I think getting a Off-Road is basically around the same cost.

You don't need to be rock crawling or crushing trails at Moab to utilize a rear locker. My locker has saved my ass more than a few times trying to drive up badly rutted-out BLM roads when I go out elk hunting.

It's useful anytime you find yourself on a rutted or sinkholed incline where you might end up with a wheel in the air. As they say, you don't think you need it until you do lol
