So a no call for mdf for these new cup holders I want to put in? Just kidding…again I have time to think and I kind of trust this audio shop in Mandeville.
I just wish it were Winter AND I had more wood crafting skills and experience.

Out of curiosity, what’s the shop name?

The only way you gain those skills is trying. My first sub box was....unfortunate looking. Every one was better than the last.

that box looks beautiful and I cannot wait for Marv to complete my birch wood box with amp rack. :)
I decided however to go with black carpet…but no denying that wood finish is very desirable. :)

I’ve done carpet before, no problem with it. I did a couple with roll on bedliner. Different look, got to let it gas off for a couple days or it’ll stink up the car. I had stain leftover from refinishing a front door for our house, and new cedar columns and shutters I built from scratch so I decided to make this one pretty.

Still debating on reinstalling the plastic cubby and cutting it up to fit around the box, make a nice looking trim ring out of it.

Very small place easy to pass up. Coming from the interstate as soon as you take a right off the interstate…it’s about 2 blocks on the right (going northbound towards Covington right after the stop light…I passed it twice already again no big sign out but apparently many know about them)…but the shop in the back is pretty big.
They are heavily booked and always busy but man their prices are wonderful.

They have Sundowns everywhere in the store front.

I might have to stop by and be sociable sometime. I got out of car audio years ago due to all the drama, but the truth be told I love car audio.

Just be ready for them to try and sell you those K2 Focals if you inquire about door speakers…they offered them to me for $100.00 less, lol They are also VERY busy but they will take the time to talk with you.
More than what I want to spend on door speakers and Marv so far has me sold on Audiofrog’s.

The main guy George has heard of them but the other employees have not.

I really hope I am going to love those 2 GB12D4 Subs Marv turned me onto.

I mentioned the ArcAudio X2 Mono 1100.1 I am getting from Marv and they are impressed with that amp.

i have Focal K2P's from some years ago. they are just as good as when i got em, and they are running 300W per ch from a bridged JL, and they handle the power perfectly. i'm not trying to steer you away from Marv's recommendation, just sharing cus i'm so happy with my Focals. that combo with the power is just right for me since i only run fronts and have no rear speakers aside from the sub, so it's all about getting the crossovers and power right. of course i'm kind of regretting not having pulled out the floor and headliner when i got the truck new 4 yrs back, but i did that on my last car install with the 10W7's and didn't want to deal with it since i needed the truck on the road right away, and just never got to it. so the sub can't go too high or i'm in a resonance can. but i still have lots o punch.

also just a shot of my Marv birch box. also with the amp rack, mine is simply painted black.

So many decisions but plenty of time

300 watts per channel!! I thought 150 watts was on the extreme side, lol

Look I’m all about power so as long as so 300 watt speakers are not going to kill my subs I’m all down for it…something tells me I probably might (again I’m kind of dumb with all this) have to upgrade to another amp for my subs if I go that route…maybe not perhaps that 1100.1 working a 1ohm setup to those GB12D4’s will match those 300 watt speakers I don’t know…but again it will be quite a while before upgrading door speakers for now…Marv just tells me I’m going to be dialing down the output knob for the subs for now to match my 50 watts 4 channels door speakers, lol but still they will sound wonderful and hit hard as ever…Marv laughed when I asked him if I would be shaking anything up and he just said dude you are going to have to tighten up your rear view mirror, lol …I’ll take his word for it.

I mention subs “hitting hard” and all but I mentioned really good sound quality as well and Marv went straight to the Audiofrogs for me.

The only experience I have with driving in a car with subs is my Cousins years ago with cheap Rockford 15’s who I know had no idea what he was doing…it was just farting bass along with rattling, lol

I cannot wait to FEEL these subwoofers once everything is done.

Also: man that painted black almost makes me want to skip the black carpet…that is fresh looking . :)

One of the first questions Marv asked me when enquiring about a box was “how much of that little access cab are you willing to give up.” I just said “Access Cab? Who needs it” lol

he chuckled and said don’t worry I’ve got you set up but I’m leaving room so you can still at least have room for seat adjustment, lol
Sounds like Marv understands exactly what I’m going for. I cannot see me not liking this setup.

Marv’s customer service and construction is absolutely top notch. Can’t brag enough on how helpful he was and how easy he is to work with.

I’m about done with my system. If I do anything, it’ll be rewire what I have to biamp the front doors and put the tears back on deck power, something that won’t cost me anything but some time and effort. Just have to decide, but for now I’m content and my daughter likes listening to music as much as I do so rear fill is kinda required in my setup.

Did you happen to catch his last name? Wonder if I happen to know him, having been around in the area for a long while. Car audio is a small world.

I figured it out. Everything is on the Internet. Heard of him, don’t know him personally. Glad they’re busy, lot of car audio shops went under over the years.

When i was in car audio in its prime during the 90's and early 2000's. all of our boxes were built from .75'' MDF. They become some heavy boxes but never had any issues. IF you are looking for a viable solution to mount your box to, what about .5 or .75'' ABS plastic. Its bendable and durable and of course water wont affect it.
