Dealers aren't in the business to lose money, they didn't lose anything, they just didn't make nearly as much profit as selling for MSRP.

When i bought my 2020 TRD OR, I found the truck on Cargurus for $40,750. When I called the dealership up to inquire about the truck they told me the truck was $43,988 so I asked them if this was the same truck I'm seeing on cargurus because it sure looked like the same truck to me. They told me that since I saw the truck on cargurus, they are obliged to honor that price. But they also told me a woman was going to see the truck and is interested in buying it at the price they set ($43,988). So I placed a reservation fee and flew down the next day to see the truck and bought it on the spot when I found it had everything I wanted.
