Do any of you think this would be a total loss? The front rebar took the hit. Minutes all the plastic. Truck is a 2017 with about 140000 miles on it. Front fenders pushed back into doors a bit towards the bottom, Both head lights, hood. Basically the entire front clip except for the fog lights. The rebar is pretty bent and am afraid the front frame rail might be bent. And in that case it would be a total loss with my insurer.

Only the insurance adjuster can decide, but it doesn't look like it.
    What is the front rebar?

Barring air bag deployment or severely bent frame horns, I would venture to say it is repairable. If totaled, may be able to buy it back and repair yourself. Steel bumper, new grille...and a little massaging and you will be good to go with plenty of cash in your pocket.

No. $8-$10k in damage would be my guess

Nope. That’s why the whole front end is plastic.

You might consider contacting your insurance carrier. I'm reasonably sure they would inspect the damage and make recommendations.

    I doubt its totaled.

With the price of used cars right now I'm guessing no way that thing gets totaled. They'll fix it.

My insurer will total if frame is bent or if damages exceeds 60 percent of vehicle worth

    It’s a Toyota. It’s never a total loss!

But in all honesty doesn’t look too bad. I did something similar on a 2010 Wrangler JKU back in 2015 and even twisted the frame and insurance covered it. These vehicles hold value even better than Jeeps, so unless there’s something we don’t see that would cost exponentially more, I would say insurance will fix it.

There is no way for anyone here to tell you for sure.

    Good luck!

Perfect time to add aftermarket bumper and fancy headlights, on the insurance dime.

You have a damn nice looking truck regardless of the mileage which would be difficult to replace if the insurance company pushed for your truck being a total loss.

My apologies in advance if you already know this but the insurance company, regardless of which one, doesn't get the final decision as long as the cost to repair is less than ~70% of the fair market value. There is a process for establishing fair market value and for the cost of repair.

My 2014 saved my wifes life when she was rear ended several years ago which was when the first Gen 3's were rolling off the assembly line. I would never buy year one of any new model year, even a Toyota. I wanted my truck repaired. If when I got it back it wasn't to my satisfaction I would either deny acceptance until it was right; and, if I couldn't force the issue I would accept it and sell it.

My 2014 had to be rebuilt on a new frame. The initial cost estimate of repairs was closer to $30K than $20K. After some back and forth the insurance company agreed to repair the truck with all Toyota parts. If any "used" Toyota parts were considered I had to be notified and agree. I agreed on a used frame because at that time the wait for a new one would have been minimum 120 days. That was more than 5 years ago and I am still pleased. We haven't had a minutes trouble with the truck.

It's reasonably clear to me that you took good care of your truck and I hope you want it repaired. I picked a repair shop that was certified by my insurance company that just so happeded to do all the frame off restoration mechanical and paint work for a well known (in the generation 1 through 3 Corvette world) to do all the repair work on my tacoma.

Good luck @Dynarider15. I wish you the best.

For sure some frame damage. Will find out once it's disassembled. Sorry to see your truck like that. Hope everyone is OK.

maybe on older vehicles. but a frame replacement on a new Tacoma isn't even going to come close to 70%

This ^ I was involved in a hit & run back in April and while damage looked extensive, it surely didn’t look totaled to me. Further, the tow truck driver mentioned numerous times that he rarely sees Tacoma’s receive a total loss valuation due to the value they hold. Lo and behold the thing was totaled and here I am with quite the upgrade!
