P0345 Any suggestions?

P0345: Camshaft Position Sensor A / Circuit bank 2

I am chasing this issue with the truck, she has around 80k+ miles, she has never had a problem until now. The truck will randomly throw a code, the trac off light and will begin to buckle and jerk, it gets to the point that it goes into limp mode and goes at a snails pace. Sometimes it can drive ok with no issues, I changed one cam sensor and was ok for a week then it acted up again, I checked the crankshaft sensor and replaced it and still nothing.

I looked around for any wires that might be cut and nothing, I probably need to look under the manifold to see if there is anything that a rodent might have gotten to. Oil level is good. I took it to toyota and of course the truck did not act up so they did not do anything to it and based on the codes in the history they still did not know what to do.

I'm running out of Ideas and need the truck up and running again, it is unsafe to drive, luckily we have another vehicle, so for now she's just been parked.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

 

Almost certainly either a faulty cam sensor or faulty wiring. You need a schematic and a DVOM or labscope to troubleshoot this. It's not difficult, just need to know what the specs are for the senor, and what inputs & grounds it should be getting. Start at the sensor, if it checks out, but you're missing power or ground, then just keep working upstream until you find out where they went.

A missing VVT sensor (for intake camshaft of bank 2) signal despite the crankshaft position sensor inputs being normal at an engine speed of 600 rpm or higher (1 trip detection logic).

• Open or short in VVT sensor (for intake camshaft of bank 2) circuit
• VVT sensor (for intake camshaft of bank 2)
• Intake camshaft
• Valve timing
• ECM

This is what TIS has to say about the code. Here is the wiring diagram sensor signal voltage is 5V

 

Doesn't get much simpler than that.

OP is there any numbers after the P0345? P034511, P034515, P034531? That would narrow it down further.

 

What's the maintenance history? If it is nothing obvious, you will need to get a tech who can determine the health of the cam phaser and also rule out chain stretch. A skilled tech can make this diagnosis.

Unfortunately there isn't. I have two separate code readers and mine only show what I posted. When I took it to Toyota they were pretty much useless, they charged to check it out and nothing came of it.

 

Just regular maintenance, she has never had an issue up until now.

 

Thanks, I have been out of state so I have not been able to do anything to her. I will get on it once I get back.

 

I have seen batteries cause crank sensor codes on 2GR FKS models. Even if it starts fine a failing battery causes issues on these, maybe have it tested as a precaution.
