Are you paying for the repairs? As long as the valve/valve seat didn't drop IMO I don't see a reason for a new short block. This is rare event to begin with and I doubt it will come back if they fix it (new head). Again this is my opinion but the fuel pump theory is nonsense. It has nothing to do with these isolated failures.

Either way good luck. I'd be pissed if I were in your shoes.

So that may imply that those of us with the antiquated head could find our self's in deep chit, yay!

Sell it now. I'll give you $10k for the truck. I'll even throw in some dogecoin and Harbor Freight coupons!

    Thanks but no thanks :D

That has also been said about the 4.0L, 22R and others. I'll pass on your offer because at $6k, it's still cheaper to keep her lol!

I just got this code on my truck. 2018 4x4 OR, 35K miles. Came on right after getting the fuel pump recall fixed. Taking it to the shop today...

Got a call from the dealer today and was told they have to replace the head, which apparently is on backorder...

Thankfully its completely covered under warranty, but we may have to cancel our Memorial Day camping trip (my truck is my tow vehicle) :annoyed:

F150 with 2.7 ecoboost was my answer. The f150 is better in so many ways. Quieter, faster, same mpg, more space, roughly same price in 2020. Only downside is harder to park and too big for tightest of trails. My work truck is a 2019 Tacoma so I compare them daily. The Tacoma drive train seems rough and only puts down power if you floor it. I was with all of you before so please don't cuss me. This is real world experience and I could not be happier. Please go test drive a 2.7 ecoboost. So nice to have low end tourqe again.

My 2017 Tacoma pulled the code P11EC, it went off on its own after about 3 weeks, now it’s back on. The truck runs great, but sporadically has a rough idle. We are changing the fuel injector…. Maybe all of them. The big question is what is causing the issue?? I have 53k miles, mostly highway.

Keep us updated if the fuel injector fixes it! Mine just pulled P11EE and is going in the shop tomorrow.

Garage just mention the same solution… really hope this is it since the code is so broad. I feel like the over quoted me on just one injector

Pulled 3 similar codes a day ago. I dropped it off at Toyota this morning and they said they are going to need to pull the entire motor to replace the head :(

Wow. I wonder if this is just for the 3rd gen since this engine is shared across several platforms

Mine is a 2019 with 27,000 miles on it. It’s at Toyota and they said it’s going to take about a week to pull the motor and replace the cylinder head. I just hope there aren’t more issues in the future

Just threw these codes at 48k. I’m hoping it’s just the fuel pump since I haven’t done the recall. Gonna have to see what the dealership says.

Well it happed to me as well on a 2018 4x4 DCSB OR

I started a tread about a month back and my truck has been in the shop for 3 weeks now.

I’m not pleased at all. I complained about rough idle/misfire issues within the first week or two of buying. Was told “by design”. The truck as had a “bumpidy road” feeling from day one like a constant misfire at 1100-1500 rpm’s. Could not get the dealership to own it, always “they all do that” etc….

Ive started yet another thread on this P11Ex code. Mine is P11EE.

The hope is that we can paste together year/manufacture/repair together and figure this out. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/another-2017-with-p11ee-code.774784/#post-27690254

Mine is under warranty and about to have the head replaced, as seems to be the general solution. Being a new head on an unknown existing issue really doesn't sit well with me. Better is knowing the underlying cause.

Mine is a 2017 SR5 V6 manufactured in Mexico (#3 is first in the VIN).

I have the P11EC. 2018 DCSB OR. 79500 miles. Comes on at idle. Keep foot on the gas at lights, maintaining 1000 RPM at idle, I can get it thru 2 drive cycles to clear all the DTCs. I think Im heading to CARMAX the moment it clears and get the price they pay which is better than shelling out 7k. I am now running ethanol free premium while clearing the DTCs in two drive cycles.

Ill keep you posted, but I am done.

What are you considering as a replacement ? For everything that’s out there these days there’s a forum full of folks cursing the day the brought it home. I truly feel for you as I’ve been in this dilemma with other makes. Recently got a 2.7l taco because of its history of longevity. If I suffer it’s performance, cosmetics, and fuel economy to have it shit the bed in under 100k miles, I’ll be a very unhappy ex-camper.
