    Hey everyone,

I live in eastern NC and spend a lot of time out on the beach, whether it’s fishing or just spending time with the kiddos and wife. My 2013 DCSB is doing ok, and I’m currently running 265/75/r16’s …. I’d like to get a little more height, stance, and fit maybe a 33 or more for new tires. I’ve tried to do some homework regarding just doing the bilsteins and an AAL .. versus .. say the Rough Country 3.5” bolt on kit which comes with coil overs for the front, new UCA’s and N3 shocks and blocks for the rear.. they even have a similar kit that adds a leaf pack… I use the truck as a daily driver but also try to get it sandy about once a week/2-3 a month all year round .. and a little off road during hunting season so I think this is warranted .. I know the buy once/cry once argument.. and agree completely .. but I also know what my use is .. so the question I’m asking is .. in the humble opinion of you tacoma gods .. what is my better option ? Or will best suit my need ?
I can’t seem to get a good price estimate on the Bilsteins installed .. but the quote I got for the RC kit without the leaf pack was $1400 installed w/tax .. I was hoping to keep it under that but I don’t want to skimp and regret it later.

I would really appreciate everyone’s $0.02 on the matter and if there’s a 3rd option I should be considering

    Thank you

Suspension of choice to suit your Other needs , because you aren’t really going to work the suspension on the beach unless you’ve gone full Baja ..

but 255/85/16s (or similar for 17s) when aired down have a Loooooooong contact patch that excels in sand

i did the bilsteins and AAl at first. It did fine for light trailing and such. I got a couple extra inches and ran 265 65 17s. you will need someone that is good at alignments and can give you as much forward caster in your alignment as possible to help clear your tires. after market Upper Control Arms also help as they are designed to give you 2 extra degrees of forward caster.

this is just after the lift.

Between the two options you gave, I'd pick the bilsteins every day. The overall feedback I've seen here regarding the rough country lifts has not been great.

Skip anything with a block lift on the factory leaf pack. You'll end up replacing the leaf pack and tossing the block in the metal scrap pile with the garbage factory leaf pack.

If you want coilovers, look at Fox or Kings with a leaf pack, UCAs, and extended brake lines.

To fit 33s you are going to need a cab mount chop, unless you go with a 255/85/16.
