this makes me nervous, dealer damaged my truck just behind the driver's side rear wheel, backed into a post... they are repairing it next week, at a good body shop, but how much of the box will end up painted... pretty pissed off about the whole thing! My truck was unblemished before this.

For a brand new vehicle I would push for a replacement, or at least some type of a trade in assistance. If you have it resprayed it will definitely diminish it's resale value, IMO.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead. I just got a 2018 TRD OR and I have this issue. My truck is MGM the fenders/bedside/doors on both sides are blotchy. Took it to the dealer they offered to respray it. I made them document it incase something down the road happens to the clear ect. I have seen several others on the road and I can see its 100% a trend with the 3rd Gen MGM. My 2nd gen was perfect. My dad has a 5th gen 4runner same color his paint looks like glass and minimal orange peel.

Same - just had them document it, even though they offered to respray it; I declined because I still wanted the 'factory' paint.

It's weird looking at others and realizing they have it also, just wonder if the drivers notice lol

Been a couple years since anyone has posted on this thread but I'm having issues with my 2nd generation MGM paint. The entire hood and roof is peeling, and I just noticed it starting under my windows.... suuuper bummed. Debating on just switching out my hood and dealing with the rest or spending $4K to repaint.

Alright folks, bringing this thread from the dead again. Got the same issue and was able to capture the paint flaws in pics. See below.

    IMG_3468.jpg

It took some effort to capture the paint defect and I can see how someone who looks at the picture in the broad daylight with the sun hitting the paint at 90 degrees won't notice this. However, once you move to the side and look at the door in the shade, you'll see some tiger stripes. Let's see what the dealer says.

Btw, I captured only the most visible part. The paint is like that all over the car and a door re-spray won't fix it. I'd ask for a full repaint off metal for the entire side which is ~$3k at the very least.

This is literally the crappiest paint job I've seen on a new car. I don't know how it passed quality control, but now I know why I might have gotten a deal on this car... In any case, the shop I use for body work can do a much better job than factory. It won't be cheap, but it will be quality. Also, I don't expect miracles. I am ok with some orange peel and minor annoyances. But having those tiger stripes in my face every time I approach the car - screw that.

Yep. Less than 2K miles on it. Yep, it shines well in the sun. But holy hell my driveway is in the shade and every am I get a crappy paint greeting. Will post an update on Sat.

I wrapped the car, as I wanted to do that anyway.

Toyota factory rep looked at it and acknowledged that it was not a defect but a standard pattern employed at that specific factory. I looked at the same color vehicles on the lot. The ones out of Indiana or Japan were perfect. If I had more time for this type of crap, I'd fight it. But my time is more valuable than that.

Super lame... mine has it too... figured it wasn't worth my time so I just had them note it down. Seems like most MGM Tacoma's I see on the road have the issue... no issues with other vehicles in MGM though
