My locking one has a rubber cap that has worked well for about 5 years now, but I don't leave it in when not in use. The paint has flaked off, but otherwise it's ok.

No harm at all in doing as you suggested. I just think leaving the locking pin in the receiver all the time should be avoided regardless. I live in the rust belt and see it done quite a bit and wonder how these people deal with it.

I had to snap my locking pin off with a breaker bar. It was so corroded the key would hardly go in. Never again will I use a lock.

Mine has a cover and when not in use its in my truck in either the rear cargo hatch in the bed, or a cupholder in the door. My keyhole is exposed only to put on the lock and take it off. Same goes for my tongue locks.

But, if I had to break mine off, I'd probably swear locking hitch pins off too.

I've had the same type hitch pin lock for decades, but it was made by fulton. Some paint has flaked off over the years but its seen many trips throughout the winter to quebec, yet the lock still functions fine.

the bend in the hitch pin should always face the ground.

The way you turn it indicates your sexual orientation. Be careful on the trail that you don't get it wrong.
