And the 1/4 of a person that it takes to put in the cubby and 4 screws a couple hundred times a day could be doing something else.

Interesting idea...I don't need it to lock, so i was thinking about buying "replacement" cubbies from a 2nd Gen and cutting some holes. I liked them a lot in my 2012. I cant complain about losing them though - the storage behind the back seats is twice as big as it was in my 2012! which is awesome!

Not a big fan of ABS plastic, especially in a place where it's gonna have a lot of crud flung at it. Contemplating this option made out of Starboard instead:
    https://www.trimmedoutinc.com/product/marine-boat-glove-box-with-latch-8-x-16-x-6-5d/

$140 for non-locking, $160 for a locking version, is still way cheaper than OEM. HDPE Starboard should be equivalent durability to OEM. There's also sliding and tilt-out variations.

Wow, but $160 is a far cry from $43 and isn't the OEM one made out of plastic like the bed anyway? Plus the ama zon one above is locking... (space cuz hate how this silly forum software creates links on keywords..)

Another Japanese car company carries possible cost savings/increases out to the 4rth decimal place per unit, a $1 increase/saving is off the scale huge. Some increases are applied, but sales has to show it will be covered by increased sales, or reduced warranty costs. It is a manufacturing company, cost drives everything.

Probably they same reason they chose not to light up the 4WD switch.

The OEM one is something like $350+ list. That Amazon glove box is ABS plastic, which is cheap, not very durable, and susceptible (over the long term) to weathering and material degradation. Also a flung rock could shatter it, especially in cold weather.
Starboard (HDPE) does none of these things, at least in your or my lifetime.

Just thought I'd throw out a more durable option for those willing to spend a bit more coin.
