Thats a nice setup. How much weight can the tonneau covers rail system hold? Are the tonneau covers rails plastic or metal?

The cover and rails are aluminum. No plastic parts here.

The cover itself is rated for 500lbs. To the best of my knowledge, the rails don’t have a rating...that would be a function of whatever is mounted. Since the rails rest on the bedsides, the capacity should be very high.

    Using the XR t-slot:

crossbars using Yakima Skyline towers have a 165 lb rating

Yakima Overhaul and Outpost bed racks have a 300 lb rating

These are the ratings of the Yakima products, not the Retrax rails, correct?

Yes, but adjusted for use on an XR cover.

The Outpost and Overhaul have a 500 lb rating if you mount to the bed rails. The Skyline towers have a 165 lb rating (I believe this is regardless of where they are mounted).

Looks like its only 300# when mounted to the XR cover.

Our (Victory 4x4) racks are compatible with Access Roll-Up Covers with some light trimming of the cover brackets. You can even roll the cover up once the rack is installed. It takes some fiddling to get everything to live in the same place but it works.

So guys I'm a cheap ass mofo. With that said I recently purchased the tonneau test bracket from max modular and just by looking at it, I maybe able to just fashion a DIY rack made out of 2x4. I'm just wondering if two crossbars made out of 2x4 will be enough to hold a RTT about 150lbs. Just curious if anyone has done this. I've seen some DIY 2x4 racks but those were mainly use for bikes or kayaks or lightweight accessories. I could probably also add two cross bed length wise for extra support.

Remember, the rack has to hold the static weight of the tent AND the people in it... not just the tent.

Really wish you guys would make a bracket similar to KBVoodoo. Definitely prefer your designs and customer service.

We haven't made anything because we don't really trust heavy loading of the rack, bouncing offroad, under those design constraints.

Sorry to revive an old-ish thread. It’s been a couple of years since the last post and I haven’t found anything other than what’s in here. Has anyone else come across any other good options for a rack with a toneau?

I'm using a set of BillieBars. I had an opportunity to see a set of KB Voodoo bars prior to purchasing the BillieBars. The quality is night and day.
