That's a decent antenna, I don't know what sort of antenna tuning works best with that unit though. Amazon is suggesting them together, so I'd say go for it?

It would be a good idea to get a GMRS license as well. No point in having 15 watts if you can't use it.

Yes, anybody can use the channels, but you are required to pay for a GMRS radio operator license if you transmit over 5 watts. It's not something you should skip.

Yesterday, I got a wild hair to get some project parts out of the bins. So I threw some cheapo tint on the shell windoors for a totally functional tint job that looks pretty good from about 1 astronomical unit.

It's more than a simple HAM. They can do so freaking much for so cheap. That's why it's important to know a bit about what you're doing or you could end up blasting feedback at 50 watts on an emergency services frequency.

I know that you aren't that kind of guy. But for those same reasons, Baofeng UV-5R units are still somewhat controversial in the amateur radio circles lol

And my order got canceled because the website did specify the difference between American and European spec units So now I've got to find a new source. Probably just bite the buck and pay a little more for the Amazon ones

There was a stop sale on them for a while. The problem is they can operate on bands outside of the HAM range (like the gmrs & frs frequencies)

the new radio I got ships locked and once you get it, you have to enable the band you wish to operate on

That's definitely better than they used to be. I had one show up out of the box default programmed to some digital EMS channel.

If I add maritime or emergency channels, I set those to recieve only mode when I program new radios.

Baofeng doesn't even know. They have so many different firmware versions that they can barely keep them straight. CHIRP is a crowdsourced program that is literally the only way to program a Baofeng for most people. I have no idea where BF gets their code and hardware combos, but it seems like they don't even know.

I could tell you where but then I'd catch a ban for... Not necessarily following the TW rules regarding all of that stuff. :anonymous:

So one of my groomsmen is interested in regearing his 3rd gen 4Runner. Has anybody gone with a KC-local installer? He's trying to avoid shipping costs and has other vehicles he can drive if we pull his 3rd and clamshell.

He said that he wanted to get a new engine with the TRD SC because he wasn't getting the power he wanted with 34s and his offroad trailer. I'm not talking him out of that (the good lord knows I'd like to wheel with that setup), he just didn't really know about regearing until I mentioned it.

EDIT: Does anybody need a pair of crossmember removing devices?
