Wanted to make a thread to dump my photos from my trip from VA to MT and back.

Plan is to leave August 9, to get to Belgrade Montana. Trying for 11 hour drive days. First stop is in Chicago to meetup with @geekhouse23 .

Next stop may be between Sioux City and Rapid City, probably around Murdo SD. I want to see the Badlands, dont want to see Mt Rushmore. I also dont want to see the world largest ball of string o_O

Then Ill be heading north and west through Wyoming and into Montana. Im planning on giving myself a day for buffer/sight seeing/issues (but hopefully none of those :fingerscrossed:)

After my appointment in Belgrade at 940am on the 13th, ill be headed south to find a campsite. No rush there either, just taking my time looking for some BLM dispersed camping. And after that making my way even more south towards Salt Lake City and Moab. I want to do TOTW trail, then find somewhere to camp.

Next plan is to head towards Denver. This should put me around the 16th of August. I havent made up my mind yet if Im going to swap 2 axles at CVJ. But I am going to meet some friends in/around Denver and Castle Rock. After that, heading to Missouri to meet @uploadadventure for some camping if I have time, or just to see his awesome truck. I want to get to Clarksville/Nashville/Smyrna to pick up some TW express from @erichudgins for @TwistedTLM4 . Then head towards Charlotte/Asheville NC to meetup with @Urineovrurhead to compare DIY camper to GFC camper.

Last stop, head north back to Northern VA. If you see me honk or wave, or message me on instagram: great_white_taco . Or if you want to grab a beer in one of those cities above, message me here.

I am not a professional photographer, but Ive got an iphone 11 Pro, and a Canon M100 with a wide angle lens. Both should fare pretty good for what I want them to do..

    minor course correction / suggestion...
this will take you by Mt Rushmore but even if you dont stop there the drive through the Black Hills is really nice. And you can go on the Needles highway with all sorts or weird tunnels and curly q's. There's some dispersed camping on the western half of the Hills if you want or plenty of campgrounds in the Custer State Park. There is an entrance fee to go through the park if you pass through one of the stations, I think this route bypasses them IIRC

    https://custerresorts.com/activities/scenic-drives/needles-highway/
And you have to swing up to Devils Tower, its worth the detour. Theres a nice forest service camp outside of Sundance or along the northern edge of the Pine Haven Reservoir. Full day's drive from Devils to Belgrade

red x's are roughly where you'll find camping options.

on 2nd thought... maybe bad idea. you're going to be there dead in the middle of Sturgis. Place will be crawling with motorcycles.

I like motorcycles. On #14 in 11 years. I do see your point, dont want to be driving where they are.

EDIT: looks like my original plan takes me through Sturgis. Maybe I should look for an alternate route?

Fuel up in Rapid City and don't get off I90 until you're well clear of Sturgis.

Picking up my GFC v2. Only camping on the way back. So that means somewhere between Belgrade-Moab, Moab-Denver, STL, Nashville, and then near Charlotte NC

@MTgirl do you think I could trash my bed cover at a dump or convenience center in Bozeman?

Or would anyone in MT want a free long bed cover? Has some holes drilled in the cross bars

The county dump us only about 20 minutes or so outside Belgrade. They would charge by the pound
Maybe post up in the MT Tacos thread and see if anyone wants it or has other suggestions for you
