I have a XDM .45 and love everything about it!!! The interchangable backstraps are wonderful... In one visit to the range I shot approx 150-200 rds (and some of those where the cheap rounds (Bear/Wolf)) and NO problems/mis feeds. I would recommend the XDM..
I have a coworker that has both in .40 cal and he likes his XDM better.

I'm guessing I won't be able to have them price match to the $568 because they know I would have to pay $40-$70 for FFL, right?

Can you even purchase a handgun? You need to be 21 and you're 19. Or is this just another stupid Cali. rule?

they probably wont price match but 600 is what Ive been seeing for the normal price so if you can get it right around there that would be about right. or just get the xd and spend that left over 100 on ammo or range membership :D

I've got the xdm 9mm, and my budddy has the xd. I love them both, but I'm happy I spend the cash for getting the XDM.. Shop around, you can find pretty good deals here and there.

I'd go with the 9mm, especially for your first gun. 9mm ammo is about half the cost of .40 so you'll be more likely to shoot a lot more rounds in practice and the recoil of the .40 is much snappier and harder to control. Everyone talks about stopping power but if you can't control the gun and make hits it doesn't matter what you shoot at them. It always amazes me to see how much people's accuracy goes out the window when they step up to the .40 cartridge from the 9mm.

I would go with the XDM simply for the match grade barrel.

I have the XDm .45 and I LOVE it!! I spent about $650 for it. It all depends on personal preference, but the m does have a lot of upgrades...and get night sights for it too, awesomeness!

Nate, do you like your night sights? I've been thinking about upgrading mine to NS, but I can't seem to find a pair that will work with the gun. Alot of people on the XD forums are bitching about the Springfield installed option. The are trijicon products, but Springfield assembly, and supposedly they aren't working out too well for some folks.

As far as recoil is concerned, some modern guns do a great job at mitigating the recoil with technology. I've got an FN .45 that shoots like a .22, because of how well it's built. I've not shot an xdm .40, but the 9mm is like butter. The .40 is more expensive ammo, and it does have more, "stopping power", but if you've ever been shot, stopping power goes out the window, getting shot is getting shot.

I just ordered an XDm .40 with night sights cost me $670. As far as the people complaining about the Trijicon night sights there are some pistols coming out of the factory that just have trijicon tubes; However, there are pistols coming out of the factory with actual trijicon sights. If you look at the Springfield Armory custom order sheet you can see the different night sight options you can order the pistols with.

Love my XD40, but the XDm seems like the better buy. I got mine as a gift, but had I had the choice I would have gone with Sig or the XDm
