The 2.7L Single Cab Thread

First post in this thread, got new wheels which I think totally transform the look of the truck. Never got a chance to snap any clean pics of them though...

 

Love this look. Mind sharing wheel and tire specs? Any suspension upgrades?

 

Those look like some nice trails, wish we had those over here on the east coast!

 

Motegi MR149 16x8 0mm offset. Fairly light and cheap wheel at 21lbs, ~$191 each, and plenty of caliper clearance. 245/75r16 Falken Wildpeaks. Stock, but well worn suspension. I think the look works on the small regular cabs for sure! 0 offset puts the tires wider than I anticipated, it's a noticeable improvement in stance IMO. Probably will move to 235/85r16 tires after this set, and thinking of eventually changing out the suspension to get a mild lift and better off road characteristics.

Loving the small wheelbase though! I feel like these trucks will be unstoppable with skids and a rear locker.

Sorry for the late reply. Im pretty sure its a LEER. The previous owner had it on there and there is no branding on it. It fits well.
On the regular cab a shell is so useful for extra lockable storage and comfortable camping for the Fiance.

No worries about being late. I appreciate the info and agree with you regarding usefulness of lockable storage on the Regular cab trucks.

It’s time for a Regular Cab!

I am 3 tacos deep, DCSBs, I currently have a gen3 6sp Manual!

I have been creeping for years on the Regular Cab pages… there is just something about them. I need one.
I am in the eastern sierras CA/NV by Tahoe. Keep your eyes out for me.

 

If you’re in the same situation as me (single/no kids) then a regular cab is fantastic. I went from a DCSB 2020 TRD OR to my current regular cab 5 speed 4wd. I love it a lot. It’s an amazing little truck.

 

I am not single, and do in fact have a kid. However,(pause for effect) the wife has a 2020 4Runner. And our daughter will be driving in 3 years.
A Regular cab would be a RAD first car!
And, I would get to drive it whenever I want.

 

My two boys love my reg cab and use it whenever their rigs need to be worked on. One has a 4 rnr the other an fj. There is just something magical about a reg cab.

 

For serious???? Where are you? I’m near Tahoe/Reno. Looking for one.

2012 pyrite 4x4 with lower mileage......it should have the center console and buckets too.....remember something about having to get 4x4 auto after 2010 to get buckets and center console in regular cabs. 2008 was last yr for prerunner rc to get buckets iirc. Not sure if the magnetic gray manual would have buckets or bench with the little console around shifter. other than that just have to see what overall differnces there are in usage and/or added features each has. IMO the lower mileage is worth the 2k difference in price if both are in similar shape otherwise. Not as many pyrite rc's around as mag gray either. there's my dos centavos.....

 

Dang the market is definitely crazy now, I picked up my 11 mag gray MT 4x4 30k miles, 14k OTD Dec 2018.

Anyway, the lower miles is definitely nice but the AT is really a deal breaker for me it’s pretty awful paired up with the 2.7, the MT is much better to drive.

the 120k is a good amount of miles I’d definitely try and talk them down to around 2k or so. Either way just make sure you give them a good test drive and look for rust etc. the truck with 120k might be the one with better maintenance.

Is there anything else in particular you’re worried about it with either truck?

 

Personally, I would go with the manual. Sure it's higher mileage, but the automatic is an absolute dog with the 4 banger. The manual at least makes it bearable.

Remember, lower mileage doesn't always mean it's been taken better care of. Look into the history of either vehicle. Have the frames looked at. Good luck.
