I'm pretty simple about how to deal with this. if it's just me going to the bike trails then I just put my bike in the truck bed by itself. If more than me or Im taking the bike camping I use a hitch mounted 2 bike carrier. works on the truck and back of my pop up camper. I had a Thule SpareME2 rack for my Jeep which wouldn't work on the truck. I switched to the Tacoma last summer there weren't any racks in stock locally or much on Amazon left. I found this and its under $100. so far it seems decent especially for the price. the optional anti rattle thing is a pain and don't really fit the camper's bumper but it held my bike on the camper for a 150 mile trip with no problems.

They are 6mm bolt holes i believe. The holes are about 2.5 inches apart.[/QUOTE]

I haven't done it, but I would just get a fork mount, and drill holes in it spaced as far as those holes, get bolts and call it good.

I originally got this Thule to use on my Ford Escape. Appears to work well on the Tacoma also. Can be lowered with bikes attached to allow tailgate to drop down.

I suppose it depends on your particular bike and whether you have a 5' or 6' bed. But for me...yes.

And if I decide to make a road trip to ride
I will sometimes use thd bed tie-downs in the front of the bed instead of the eyelets I installed in the rack....or sometimes both.

I love it though. Very convenient and the bikes are secure. I built it about a year ago. Today it would cost $1543 in today's wood prices! o_O

Here's how it's secured in the bed.
