How capable is the TRD sport off road?

So every video I see online offroad is a trd Pro or trd Offroad. Which I get they have crawl control and locking diffs which I understand make them much better.

But I am curious how many people have done any offroading with the TRD Sport while it is still stock?

 

The most my sport has seen (and will ever see if I have a choice) is relatively smooth hard packed gravel, dirt, and grass, all when dry. As a stock 4x2 I wouldn't push it any more than that. FWIW it did those without even knowing they were there.

 

Define "off road"

stock is capable enough for the average joe. Just dont expect to go mud bogging or bouncing off rocks

Stock trd sport is a beast off road. It amazes me every time.

 

Not really looking for mud boggin or crazy rock climbs. Looking to be able to go on some semi rough trails to get to camping spots.

 

Then sport will definitely suit your needs.

The Sport will do everything any other 4wd Tacoma will do 90% of the time for 98% of the drivers.

 

I've done some pretty sketchy shit where I was sure that I would not make it or get stuck.....Made most of it no problem. Very capable truck.

Edit: Looking back now I would get the offroad for the locker.

 

Just me thinking, but the slightly cheaper sport model is not a bad idea if you wanted to throw on some 5100 Bilsteins for a minor lift. What else is different between the two? both have locking diff? Maybe no crawl in sport?

 

Pretty much you can drive a Yugo off-road if you’re not a moron.

 

My factory '19 Sport 4x4 access cab has gotten me into places I would have lost bets over. Only had it a few months before I took it up into the scrub around Mt. Rainier and not knowing what I'm doing got into some pretty hairy stuff. 4LO just chugged me right up/over/out of everything I got into but smelled clutch for a while after that. Still have the deep scratches in the clearcoat to prove it.

They don't stay new forever...
