    Hey All...

    2006 Prerunner 4.0 V6 Doublecab shortbed.

I'm not sure if I've screwed up or not.

Has anyone ever heard of U-Joints that have both the outer and inner clips?

I've been beating on this u-joint for awhile and nothing is happening. The other two came apart okay. It took a lot of muscle, even with the C Clap thingy.

This joint had some rubber/plastic o- ring type things on the inside that I removed. The more I look at them I don't see how they are going to come out.

See the attached pictures. This is the u-joint at the differential.

(Edit - no inner rings were present)

Your doing it right. Just keep knocking the hell out of it. What I normally do is I lay a socket bigger than the yolk on the ground, and use a smaller one to hit it through. I also mark the driveshaft, transmission and rear end with a straight line. Because the shaft has weights and should be put back in the same way taken out. Might not matter just the way I’ve done it.

Finally got the u-joint out. A night of sleep and cooler temps helped me clear my head. Then I used the C clamp looking thing and showed it who was boss.
Cleaned up the parts and am now taking a break before I reassemble it all with new joints and a new center support bearing.

I’m glad you got it out. Like I said know the hell out of it. After the first time doing it it’s a cake walk. I put u joints in with grease fittings and grease them every oil change. Makes life a lot easier. Lol

Finally got it done. All the snap clips are snapped in. Everything is ready to go back on the truck.
Now only if I could get my dang grease gun to work!

A TIP I DISCOVERED DOING THIS JOB...
If you are doing this job with your truck's rear wheels off the ground, don't tighten the carrier bearing bracket bolts securely until after the truck is back on the ground under its own weight.
When I took it for a test drive yesterday I could hear a little kind of clunky noise.
This morning, I went out and with the truck firmly on the ground, I loosened the carrier bearing bracket bolts and the driveshaft and carrier bearing shifted on its own about a 1/4 inch or so forward. After that, I resecured the bolts to spec. Took it for a test drive and the result was no noise or vibrations at all.
