I’m planning to repaint a 2011 Tacoma Prerunner. Looking for ideas to restore the faded black plastic including the side steps and bed liner.

CQUARTZ DLUX does a great job restoring and protecting faded trim.

Most of the detailing channels I follow on You Tube recommend Solution Finish or Cerakote Ceramic Trim Coat.

    Hi all,

I too will be repainting the Taco. Well, bedlining it actually. My trim has seen better days and I doubt myself to be able to keep it from getting worse. Anyone have advice on bedliner vs plasti dip for trim?

Solution Finish will make it look new again. Just make sure to clean the area really well before applying. Here's a good video to walk you through the application process:

@rfranklin1 I've used Mothers Back to Black for months. The only issue I have with it? the streaks that appear, (after it rains). Even if it's parked, I always have to 'touch up' after either a light sprinkle or downpour. I ordered Solution Finish in hopes the protective coating adheres and solves the streaking problem.

Used Meguiar's Ultimate Black Plastic Restorer.
Took about 3 coats for this to look a bit more prettier and it's not perfect but it'll do.
Before and after pictures below. This side was the only one this bad. The others were faded evenly.

Cerakote Ceramic trim coat works better and lasts longer than anything I've tried, and I've tried about every product on the market. YMMV.

x2. Use a trim coating like Cerakote or one of the other well know brands. Throw the dressings in the garbage.

Curious what you guys think about using the Cerakote on a newer truck (not faded) as protection. Any negatives?

IMG_20210727_180446_01.jpg My favourite is boiled linseed oil. Cheap as chips. You can mix a bit of mineral spirits in to get it to flow better. Get a cloth rag damp with it and rub on the plastic. Apply sparingly and try and if you get some on the paint, it is easy enough to remove. Use a strong lint free cloth. Should last for a year or two before reapplying.

I don't see that as a bad idea at all.

Check out eastwood plastic resurfacer. Used it on an old honda crv. Works great and is basically permanent. Clean and scuff with a red scuff pad first even though it says you dont have too.
