Yea, I didn’t want to deal with it :D
    Too lazy.

And I really really hope I regret it. I’ll be so happy to regret not having those warrants ready

So I feel stupid. I bought SHEN. And held through the announced record date because of the special issue dividen. It was a dividend of 18.75 per share. I sold shares after record date at a loss of 2$ per share. Not bad in a 60$ share.
But since 18.75 is more than 20% it’s has different rules. My boss who also did the same as me, told me he saw something that the stock had to be held through the issue date not just the record date. So I guess I’ll find out on august 3rd if I messed up or not. Didn’t know there were special rules for dividends of over 20%.

Yep. Ex div date is the date you wanted if you were shareholder on record date. The stock price will reflect the div. once it’s paid. Now, since you were shareholder as of date of record, could you buy back in before ex div and get it? I don’t know. But I don’t think it would be profitable

Edit: actually, reading a bit, not sure about that. Stay tuned

Yea there’s so many weird rules and things with dividends and special issue dividends. I’m fine with it though. I only lost 14 dollars. Just used spare cash I had. Was hoping to get an easy 130 out of the special dividend lol

Yea. I think that’s right. They set the date as they did, because it will be a big share drop and everyone would have done what you did. You might have lost more depending on how big the drop is after the ex div. probably comes out in the wash as they say

This play might only be worth trying in an IRA.
In a taxable account all you are doing is setting yourself up for a big short term capital gains tax bill...You take cash, buy something, they give you 1/3 back and now you owe taxes on it...

I get what your saying but for now my Roth is strictly “investing” no trading or even short term stuff in it. Want to build it up and get more years of maxing it out in there first.

No shit. I'm so impressed @cartter469 is even thinking about this at his age. Super cool.

For shit's and giggle I ran the numbers. Assuming $5K initial deposit and $5k a year contributions at a 10% rate of return that's $2.66M at the end of 40 years.

Yep, he’s got a great head start on most people I know. At 18 I couldn’t see beyond what I was doing tomorrow. And if I had enough money for that, all good

10% is decent. I use 7.5% on my spreadsheet I have that tracks all my finance shit. I think more realistically. It will be interesting through college to see if I’m able to max it out.

Even if you can't max the contributions and how early you are starting will put you in a position later in life that most would be envious of. The little bit of money you don't have to spend now will end up being well spent when it's time for you to retire.

Not even close lol. All I do is apparently lose out on profits on options cus I set the wrong sell order type on webull. That and I bought in during March of 2020 in my normal investment account which means I got a casual 100% over a year and a half. Coulda had more if I had full control at the time and wasn’t restricted to going through parents since I was a minor. I wanted nvda at 240 and Tesla under 100. I settled for AAPL.

figured out which sell order I’m going to have to use on webull for options so it triggers without fail.

Learning at your age, priceless. You host the thread party at your place in 15 years

    Also, AAPL, not bad considering

I’m still kicking myself for not buying more at 140. I’d be green overall still. Listened to my parents who were “suggesting cutting losses”. I only bought one share lol.
Told them that I regret listening to their advice.

Doesn’t matter if I’m green or red right now. By the end of this if I’m not green then someone in the SEC didn’t do their job.
