If you pay attention ambulance and fire often come almost to a stop at intersections even when they have a green. Why? There is always some idiot that isn't paying attention and does something stupid. It's better to get there a minute or two later than not get there at all.

I personally T-boned a 1963 station wagon that ran a stop sign. That big ole brush/structural truck made a mess of the wagon, and the kids inside bounced around like ping pong balls (pre mandatory use of seat belts, and car seats didn't exist). And this was decades before cell phones so you can imagine how bad things are now.
