I don't have a strong opinion on it either way. On one hand, the price may make it worth the risk. On the other, is it worth the headache if it shits out in the near future. I would probably pass but 6 gear is more knowledgeable so I would take his opinion more seriously.

That's only the adjuster wheel for setting the preload, doesn't rotate or have any moving parts to it. If that's the only rust I wouldn't worry about it. Do you have access to go check it out in person? If not, I'd ask when it was last installed and have them send a picture of the tooth contact pattern with some marking compound. If it's aftermarket gears I'd also ask who set up the gears just for some peace of mind that it wasn't some intern learning in in a home garage LOL.

I appreciate the opinion. I am not even sure I would keep it at this point, but sell it or something. I really need the rearend so I can pull the LT width D60 off the pig. This rearend was the best deal I have found as the regular parts house customers dont want airlockers.

This is a salvage parts house out of state, so it would be shipped to me. They are factory gears according to them. Not sure how far they will go for me, but if they are stock gears they shouldnt have touched the pinion, (hopefully) so it would be just backlash I would need to worry about...? But yeah its a little bit of a crap shoot. They guy straight up told me no one wants the airlocker, and a few people bought it and sent it back because they didnt even understand what they were getting then realized they needed air compressor etc... I think with the crud shown in the picture he may even make me a better deal than the original quoted price. He's itching for me to call him but I kinda needed a second opinion before having that convo lol.. I just got new gears from ECGS I am installing as we speak, wish I had found this a month ago could have saved myself and sent this in to get regeared. Not sure I want to fool with it myself.

SPC Ball joints shot after 1 year and about 7000 miles.. I had a couple pretty rough trips but can't say that's worth it.

Well I bought it. I got the guy down to $750 for the complete rearend with airlocker and disc brake hubs. I think after my trip in august I will rebuild the third with my new gears and all new bearing, seals etc, and swap it in. This way I will have air lockers front and rear.

Getting Trip Ready.. And found my carrier bearing is on its way out and I have a bad u-joint. So thats nice, and thanks to SAI there isnt quite enough room to put my other AGM in the engine bay like I planned, so I need a plan B pretty quick. @Newlife lent me his Jackery 500 to float my fridge, but dang I wish I could just do what I want, lol.

Stole my Gobi axe/shovel mounts to use on my victory. Took a little finagling but got them to work.

I hope its just because my backseats are out but something is just too damn loud.. Driveline getting cleaned up tomorrow.. maybe I will get lucky and it was a ujoint or the carrier(which I know is shot).. My fear is a rear bearing as I dont want to do that myself right before a trip. Hell I dont want to do anything else right now myself. Or the pinion bearing that would be worse case scenario I think. too close to trip time. All that said, I got my Ridge Grapplers back on which will make the drive out west a little nicer. Looks like its turn the radio louder from here on out..

After screwing with driveline drop and angles, finally found the sweet spot. Originally did a 2.5" drop spacer. I made a 2" the other day and put it in this am, and PERFECTION.. No more vibes, smooth as silk. Glad to have that behind me. Also with the shorter spacers, and drilling out the holes a hair I was able to get a nice straight line between the two pieces.

did this alleviate noise you heard in cab? I was going to reply to your other post, doing a seat delete in a dual cab does make things a lot noisier — in my experience.

Yeah, idk.. There is still some noise but it could very well be just the fact that the seats are out. I stopped by a local shop and the guy and I took a drive and he diagnosed me as paranoid, lol.. He said he felt like the backend was a little noisy, but with the boxes on the roof and no back seats its really hard to say..

The driveshaft noise is definitely gone. That was a rotational squeak at low speed, and that is all good now.

First let me say I love your thread. Quite humorous!

Second, you’re like the 80th person to say this, and it seems like 78 of you have said this very recently. Im more just observing this trend than anything. But it’s concerning to me as I was planning on going the Dakar route, and as a daily driver I’m quick to complain of unnecessary noises.

Thanks man! My first set had no noise at all, this set is crazy bad, though part of the problem may be that I added a brand new add a leaf to a used set of Dakars. I cant say if they were noisy on their own as I added the leaf before putting them in. I dont know but its really annoying..
