I’m about to trade in my ‘07 Tacoma for either a ‘13 or ‘16. According to several websites the ‘16 to ‘20 do not have high ratings. I need feedback from folks who drive them and know their stuff.
Thanks for the feedback ahead of time.

Test drive both of them repeatedly.
I’m happy with my 15 but never driven or ridden in a gen 3
    Good luck with your decision

I have a 2019 which is basically a 2016. I like it a lot and I haven’t had any issues in the 23k miles that I’ve driven so far.

so many factors here, you could research and validate either side of it.

many of the users here seem to fall in the camp that 16's were the most problematic from new-to-market growing pains in many ways from leaks to noises to AT misbehavior and even MT tune issues that were significant and not subtle. many 17 owners report well with less tune issues and no TSS to deal with. i have this experience with my 17 as well. the AT issues as well as leaks seem to somewhat reduce going forward from there. but TSS and lift related issues seem to grow. it's the evolution of new tech being released to mass market. you'd want to spend a good amount of time here to get a picture for yourself.

if my experience matters, i have a 17 MT that had all the typical issues at that time, and all were correctable directly once identified. but i was pre-tss so it didn't get too weird or complicated except for the ECU tune that was a big PITA, but was fully correctable over time. if it was my purchase, i would only be inclined to avoid the 16 trucks, and i would be happiest to start with a 17.. but it's just one guys experience. the newer trucks look to be less affected by software stuff, which is good.

    Welcome to TW!

Depends, do you want a more rustic truck or a more refined truck?

I think i’d rather have a second gen personally
