Being told it was a bad power steering tensioner. They actually have a Toyota rep in the area and he’s coming out to look at it too.

    should know more this afternoon

Doesn’t explain the coolant leak. You have more going on they aren’t telling you.

    Ask for a new truck.

How does a bad power steering tensioner cause coolant loss. Unless the belt was loose and slipping bad enough that the water pump wasn't really pumping. Was the coolant coming from the water pump or the overflow when you pulled over?

Where did the coolant come from?

Service manager walked me through everything last night. Bad power steering pulley caused part of the belt to fray and separate. Piece of the belt knocked the thermostat bypass hose off it’s mounting port. That’s where the coolant came from.

I would hope after they fix the issue and engine compartment detail is included. Prayerfully you will not have any further problems and get 300k out of it.

Things like this happen. 20+ years ago when I was in College I had a GF who bought a brand-new Corolla, then a couple of days later while sitting at a traffic light it lost all it's transmission fluid and had to be towed back to the dealer. In that case it was a failed (or more likely) improperly-installed hose clamp on one of the transmission cooler lines. The dealer fixed it, re-filled the transmission and she ended-up driving that car with no other problems for the next three or four years. Sometimes things happen, it sounds like your Dealer took care of it which is what should happen.

They are detailing it too. Honestly can’t complain about the service department here. They’ve been great
