Maybe it's just the military mindset still in me, but I have always kept basic survival / emergency gear in my vehicles. But over the past two years I have beefed my prep status up a bit to have a well stocked bug-out prep kit onboard at all times. I honestly don't think we are that far removed from a large scale societal breakdown at this point!

I truly hope that all my preparedness efforts are for naught and that when I die, my kids have a good laugh as they are tossing my freeze dried food stash in the dumpster.

I haven't put anything in my Tacoma yet but in my Jeep I keep: Jumper cables, a basic tool kit, extra light bulbs, a hatchet, and toilet paper.

I work for a company in the space. Always have my CC on me, have a mk18 mod 1 locked in the truck, a full trauma kit and my overlanding gear.

I used to carry a similar setup. I carry my cc (G19 mos) and a BCM Recce 11 now. Mk18 is in the safe.

I don’t carry quite that much gear, but pretty close. I’d argue most of that stuff will fit in a single action packer Rubbermaid box and other locations in the truck.

I will say that I worry about break ins a bit more when I’m carrying all that gear. One of the joys of living near Bumtown, OR

besides the basic stuff that a lot of people have listed my other essential is a portable toilet for my kids. Cant tell you how handy this is if your kid has to pee (assuming you've got a girl) or needs to take a shit on the road. Pull over anywehre, throw them in the back of the truck and let them do their thing.

I won't lie, i've used it before too when there was no other option

A truck is not a secure container for a firearm
    Worse than purse carry.

    To answer the question:
    American Red Cross FAK
    QuikClot Sportsman's Trauma kit
    ARB recovery strap
CM and Curt 6-1/2 ton shackles
    Jumper cable
Roll-up tool kit with Tacoma-specific wrenches
    Full socket set
    Flashlights/headlamp
    Reflector belt
    Roadside kit
    Rain jacket

More stuff than I can recall.

I also have a bag with winter kit (blankets, wool socks, fire starters, etc) that goes in when it gets cold (not a huge thing in Oklahoma). Also traction boards with snow.

There's a level of reasonable preparedness for likely scenarios, and then there's fantasy...

Concerning firearms; I do not store any weapons in my vehicle full time. If I am in the truck, so is my weapon and vice versa. But I do keep a few boxes of ammo and a few loaded magazines in the vehicle at all times.

I carry the usual roadside assistance gear. First Aid kit, jumper cables, basic tools, fire extinguisher. Water, some energy bars, toilet paper and paper towels. When the weather gets cold I throw in a couple of blankets, change of clothes, and some snow-related recovery stuff.

I also pack around a couple tarps, straps, twine, bungie cords, and a red flag.

I think I've used more of this stuff in my driveway helping out a neighbor or roommate than actually on the road, but it's still handy to have readily at hand instead of digging through the shelves in my garage.

Can I ask why you'd keep boxes of ammo? Like, do you envision any scenario where you're going to have the opportunity to empty all of your spare mags and have time to reload those clips from your boxes of ammo? What are the people you're mag dumping at doing, while you're reloading your mags?

I like plinking at the range as much as anyone, but I don't carry around a firearm regularly unless I intend to hunt with it or take it to the range. I've never felt the need to carry around a fear totem in order to feel safe, and I live in meth central.
