Hello everyone. I'm new to the Tacoma forums and am already in dire need of some expert internet stranger advice!

Ok guys. I've been doing research, but apparently not enough.

Just bought a 2005 double cab Prerunner on stock suspension.
Stock Specs say that is was out of the factory originally sitting on 17's wrapped in 265/65/17.
    I bought some 17x9 -12 (4.5 backspace) Rocktrix 107.
I bought some Falken Wildpeak 265/70/17 121S AT3 wheels and they rub in the front wheel well.

I went ahead and trimmed part of the driver and passenger front wheel well fender liners so that the tires will clear. Now that it clears past the point where the liner was, when I turn the wheel further, just before full lock, the tire barely rubs ( roughly 1" needed to clear) the mudflaps in the rear of the front wheel well.

I'm in a rough spot because I don't think that removing the mudflaps would make a difference as they are pretty flush with the wheel well.

The truck looks sick, but I would like to be able to make sharper turns lol. Any expert advice?

I would thinking that I would be able to replace the Wildpeaks with 265/65/17? Perhaps it would clear if it was with stock specs? I humbly ask advice on this as well as I am new to the wheel/tire fitment world.

Please forgive me if there is a thread already out there detailing this but time is prescient. I'm writing from work and hoping to find an answer soon as my poor lovely truck is just posing in my driveway instead of turning heads on the road. Thanks for your help guys!

Its your rims.......the stock rims are 7.5 inches wide. Not sure of the stock back spacing (roughly 4.7"). The stock 17" have a +30 mm offset.

What is the offset on your replacement wheels?

You're doing this for appearance.....so it looks good sitting at home.:rofl::rofl:

You can change wheels or begin hacking and cutting.

I'm no expert, but I have been doing a lot of research on offsets and fitting for 285/70/17. What it sounds like to me is you make have too great of offset to clear the wheel-well without a lift or greater caster. This means you have a few options:

    1. Run a smaller offset wheel, this will push the tire back into the wheel well a bit and provide more clearance to the cab when turning the wheel.

    2. Install a lift and adjustable UCAs, the SPC UCAs allow for more adjustability for caster, which can move your wheel further up in the wheel-well.

    3. Lose the mudflaps and trim more, fitting bigger tires on these trucks unfortunately means we have to trim, and most guys find the mudflaps are a large culprit of rubbing.

Again I am no expert and am usually wrong but this is what I have found has worked for me with fitting 33s.

    Thanks for the post.
The offset is -12 on the new Rocktrix, and there is about 1/2" to an inch of poke out from the fenders, so that makes sense that they are too far from the hub to turn. I would just hate to have to start all over especially because of the inconvenience attempting to return everything although I would have to I guess. I don't want to lift and I don't even know if I can gut/cut behind the mudflaps. Is that possible?

If this is the case, I will be contacting the manufacturer then because they state that these are compatible with my model and generation.

The wheels are compatible. You put on a bigger tire and that is the other part of the problem. I ran into same issue when I tried 265/70 with my aftermarket wheel. Had to go back to factory size due to rubbing. Best I remember removing mud flap didnt help much.

Don’t mean to sound like an ass but you picked the wrong tire/wheel combo. That isn’t really the manufacturers fault.

I have -10 offset SCS wheels with the same 265/70/17 tire combo. I knew going in that it would rub because I did my homework. Removed the mudflaps and mine still rub a bit at full lock but not enough that I really care much right now.

Keep in mind you modified things from stock. Bigger tires = more work to make them fit. You may need to trim things or use a BFH (big f'n hammer) to clearance inside the wheel well. People that go to 33" tires or bigger need to do a cab mount chop and other more extreme measures.

As others mentioned you could try doing upper control arms (UCAs). Lots of options, SPC seems like a common one for best adustability to add more caster and move the wheel forward a bit for more room. No guarantees this is a perfect fix either.

My guess is that since you have a Prerunner it doesn't sit as high as Offroad models which means you have less clearance to begin with. May want to consider a small bit of lift to reach same height as the Offroads have stock.

Or live with your clearance problems. Or go smaller.

You aren't coming off as an ass at all! I'm just trying to see through the fog. I'm entertaining everyone's ideas and backing it up with my own further research. Thanks for the input!!

So when you went back to factory size you mean you put 265/65/17? I'm sorry I'm at work and don't have the time to check out your build if you have pics and posts etc.

Yes. By going up to 265/70/17 it adds roughly an inch to the overall diameter of the tire.

Take off the mudflaps. If it clears you can trim them and reinstall or leave them off
